So thus breaks my 6 year winning streak of not coming down with a flu/cold And so early in the season too! Guess it's best to get it out of the way though. Thank you to my hubby from dragging it home from work and passing it on to me! The last time I was sick was the year all that swine flu panic was going around and I certainly did get a particularly nasty flu that year (would never go to a doctor over such thing, but it might well have been what everyone was panicking over).

Based on the fact I was running a nice 102+ fever, I'm thinking I had a mild flu the past 2 days and not just a cold. It kind of bums me out since I was hoping my mostly raw, whole foods diet would keep sickness away permanently. On the brighter side, it didn't completely knock me down like the last time and the fever being pretty up there but not being overwhelmingly tired with it let me know my immune system was at least doing it's job well! And it never breeched 103, which is my cutoff where I'll actually take a fever reducer (which just inhibits my body from fighting it but I also don't want brain damage from too high a fever) so I'm pleased it was high enough to fight the bug but not high enough to hurt me:D Though it did prevent me from running any errands since I was running a fever and therefore didn't want to infect others:mad:.

Being so much in tune with my body at this point, I was having overwhelming cravings for buckets for orange juice and...mashed potatoes lololol (OJ has vitamin C, but I have no idea why the potatoes!). My hubby brought home both last night after work, so I juiced up 10lbs of oranges and made my mashed potatoes. Within 2 hours, the sore throat went away and settled right down into my lungs to clear on out. My fever broke a few hours after that, so I'm guessing my body knew just what it needed to heal:D Kind of crappy though because it's the middle of the night right now, I got up to use the bathroom and the coughing/drainage started in really bad. I'm out in the living room lurking on the internet while I cough up gunk. Poor Kiwi is being kept awake I'm sure, but unlike my hubby, he can sleep all day today if he needs;). I certainly hope by the end of the day/tommorrow it's all cleared out and done with.

I feel for you !! I have taken the flu shot every year and came down with it last year. Like the nurse told me with the shot you are 50/50 because of the two flu virus going around last year. Hope I stay clear of it this year.
Hope you feel better soon !!

So sorry you got sick. :( Hoping you feel better soon, sounds like you've gotten through the worst of it!

I need to get my flu shot soon. Since I worked retail (and worked at CVS for a time, exposed to a lot of sick people) and now with my mom staying with me, I can't take the risk of bringing the flu into my house! Not to mention my boyfriend wouldn't come within 50 feet of me if I got it. Plus I have birds to take care of!

My go-to when I'm sick is Orange Gatorade. I have to have it, my parents always gave that to me when I was a kid because I was always sick and it's the only thing I'd drink!

The mashed potatos probably helped settle your stomach and are a pretty good basic food to eat when sick. I make myself rice "porridge" sometimes. I also get really sensitive to smells when I'm sick, which is another reason I'm thankful I (mostly) live alone!

That's a bummer. Drink lots of fluid and invest in NyQuil.

And last time I had it bad was the "Swine Flu" year as well.... IN JULY.

Every symptom they listed. I was out for a week and lost something like 30lbs. (Which isn't as bad as it sounds because I'm a big boy, lol)

Feel better!

Thanks everyone! It does seem to be breaking up:) I guess I see it as being super annoying but I guess every once in a while I don't mind my immune system having to fight some bug just to keep in good shape in case I was ever exposed to something serious!

@Aquila- I remember gatorade! I don't think I've had one since around middle school though. My mom used to give me Sprite or OJ when I was sick (depending if my tummy was upset or not). I don't drink soda or store bought drinks, but the fresh made OJ has so much natural vitamin C, sugars for energy and taste soooo good when I'm sick. I do suppose my body needed the starch and carbs in the potatoes, as I never do eat 'well' when sick. I have plenty leftover for today, along with another bag of oranges, a pineapple and a container of strawberries I plan to juice up later.

It was a nasty one that year wasn't it? And it seemed like all the people who normally do not get the seasonal flu ended up with that one. I was knocked down for 3 days barely able to get out of bed with an awful cough that lingered another week:( I hope if one like that goes around again it passes me up! This one I have at least been able to drag myself out of bed. I only take medication if I have a high enough fever it could be dangerous and this flu seems to be on it's way out today anyways.

Hope you feel better soon! ;)

Add a pinch of salt to your OJ, and it'll give you a better electrolyte balance since you're already getting the potassium from the juice, and even a little honey if you need some more glucose.

Glad you are beginning to feel better. Influenza is a terrible illness that just takes time to process. I get a flu shot every year - while there are no guarantees, supposedly the halo-effect of coverage can minimize an unexpected strain of virus.
