EEK, so excited. Last night I put a deposit down on my new baby female bronze wing pionus! She's 13 weeks old and will come home in 2 weeks! 25 years ago we got our first baby Maximillian Pi and our 25th anniversary is this spring. I had been looking off and on for the last 10 years for a baby bronze wing with no luck, and Finally! Actually, that's how I got my older male BW, I had been in contact with a pionus breeder waiting on babies and the last time I contacted him he said his female had died and so he was getting rid of the rest, so I grabbed the one male. He's actually a pretty good bird for having not been handled in probably a dozen years! Now... any suggestions on cages, is there anything new out there, my last was an avian adventures. Favorite toys for babies? Baby tips, I haven't worked raising a baby in quite a while, worked with OLDER birds and rescues a lot LOL. Thanks!

I am positively GREEN with envy. My hands and house are full but a bronze wing is the last bird I have on my bucket list.
I hope to see and here a lot about your bird.
Congratulations.

Another Bronze Winged Pi! I have to say I'm envious too.. as you'll have 2 and I'll only have one lol :D. I see that you're quite the Pi aficionado already!

Actually I had a female about 12 years ago, but she passed. Now I have a male. I find the female was more easy going and gentle than Raven is. My favorite parrot from the moment I saw them in a book 20+ years ago! Yes, they are harder to find nowadays than they used to be, for some reason. Many people that used to breed the species don't any more.

Texsize, I figured you'd see this thread :)

EDIT: I saw you were asking about cages. I really love this one for my Bronze Winged. 26"x34" and lots of interior space because it goes low to the ground. It was hard to find a larger cage that wasn't super tall.

Welcome! While you're exploring, you can take any issue or topic which interests you, use the Search Tab and then read about it. I still often do that.
I admire Bronze Wings so much. Their colors are just stunning!! If only the Rickeybird would allow me to have one!

How exciting! You definitely have to post pictures when you get her.

I have wanted a Pi since the day I read an article about them in an old Bird Talk magazine, about 17 years ago. I am partial to the Bronze-winged and the Blue-Heads. The local bird rescue currently has two Bronze-wings and a Blue-head available for adoption. If only I had enough room and time for a third bird in the house. *Sigh*

How exciting a new baby bird. I want one. How did you find the breeder? These birds are so hard to find.

If you have worked with older parrots and rescues I would think a fresh little baby bird will be easy. It is a clean slate you can to make sure it is socialized well and handled properly right from the start. Yeah photos would be cool.

She comes tomorrow :) Honestly, I found her listed online, I periodically cruise through looking for baby BW. Working on thinking of a name now, might have to wait until I see her to finalize though. Our male BW pionus is Merlin, so trying to decide if I should pair it with something from King Arthur or Arrow crew or go off the reservation so to speak :)

So gorgeous, congrats! Boy or girl? Name?

I just showed the pic to my Bronze Winged boy Raven. He said "hi" through the screen :).

love the picture of your new BFF (Beat Feathered Friend ).
Names are always hard for me.
congratulations.

It's a girl and the final decision on name is "Kalessi"

Could anyone of you please suggest if you know any breeder who is breeding a bronze winged pionus now ?

Hello Mosaic - Would you mind sharing details of the breeder you are getting your BW Pionus from ? I would like to stay in touch and be on their waiting list for any future clutches. I appreciate your help. Thank you much.
