Next week I will be bringing home my new Meyers baby (14 weeks)....
I have owned Cockatiels, Parakeets, a feral Nanday conure, and a Senegal and really want to do a good job socializing this baby. My Senegal was a great bird until I got married and then got very aggressive, even with me, which was heartbreaking.
I have ordered an Aviator harness and am hoping to be able to use it with the new baby so I can take him outdoors and on outings. Are there any suggestions to bringing him out in public for socialization? I plan on taking my time and working on a bond and simple training first....I want to utilize the developmental period for socialization but don't want to push too much too soon.

I also plan on using clicker training with this bird...does anyone have any suggestions for a good training treat?

Can't wait to see the replies to this thread I pick up my 5week old baby Alex this weekend and Want to get things right this time and be the parront who teachs my baby how to correctly socialize etc , biting, foods, bathing , there is so much to teach a young one where do we start ???

I dont have any answers either but am also interested. My Meyers is already 5 months old but I am a first time owner and want to keep he socialized. Right now she gets a long with everyone my dog, wife, friends, turtles ect.

Oh I love the Meyers. Please share photos. While I do not have a meyers I do have Rosie the TAG you can see in "our birds talking". She has come a long way from the shy little baby she once was. How?? I joined a local bird club and took her to the meetings. I really brought her around. Peope in the club bring their birds in for socialization. She was held, stepped up on other fingers and really had a good time. I thought she would be so frightened but she was not.

This is my plan as well...just got the Aviator harness in today so after some training time I'm hoping to take him out in public and on walks with me. I think the exposure will go a long way in socialization....
Such a sweetie though...I've been doing my best to give him ample time to get used to his cage and not overload him. Once I figure out how to compress my picture files, I'll post a few...

Let's see if this works...this is Kevin my 14 week old Myers...

Kevin is extremely handsome, thanks for sharing him with us :)

Such handsome birds
well done keep up thr good work and I'm sure he be your best bud before long

One idea that was suggested to me was a birdy baby shower just 2 or 3 friends over to have coffee etc and so******e with your bird
but only once you have a trusting relationship with him yourself
