Sooo .....Tinker laid an egg

In her food bowl.........

I took it out, but am now not sure if that was the right thing to do . I have never had a female bird lay before. If she lays more should I leave them? Or take them out? She has more than one food bowl, should I let her use one as a nest? Will taking the egg make her lay more? UGH....I just want to do what is best for her.

hi there, if she lays another leave it in for a few days until she gets tired of it. If she has a happy hut or nest box, take it out. Also don't allow her in small dark spaces like shoes, closets, under the couch etc and limit daylight hours...Another thing to consider is not to pet her down the back, vent, or belly, just stick to the head. Doing these things can reduce hormonal behavior/ egg laying. If you really wana go crazy, i heard showering too much and feeding too many beans can cause hormonal behavior but I'm not so sure...I also recommend giving her some extra calcium such as dark leafy greens (Ex kale), a cuttle bone, and maybe a supplement, and consulting your avian vet if she keeps laying eggs. good luck !

She has a cuttle bone, and she gets greens every other day.

She showers once or twice a week, has beans in her "chop" that I feed once a day, and has a happy hut that she sleeps in....UGH!

I just added a light (I'm not sure she had one at her last home, her cage was in front of a window) I wonder if that triggered it? I won't put it on for now.

If she keeps laying I will def take her to the vet. She was just in 2 weeks ago, and got a clean bill of health, but I would rather be safe than sorry.
