Hey just wondering what this sound meant out of my Alexandrine if anyone knows I was always curious but no one ever could tell me (posted a video).

Keep in mind she was weaker than a normal Alexandrine, she could never fly, was unbalanced as a baby and she never saw any improvements and eventually got worse at the age of 2.5 years old and passed away this Saturday :(

Rest In Peace my angel April 28/2018 :green1:

Here’s the link of the sound she made:

It was weird never saw other Alexandrines do it, but then again she never made sounds like I’ve seen Alex’s make on YouTube or in person either she was very unique it was almost like a aggressive yawn and she’d do it often when she saw me she’d run to the far corner of her cage, make the sound, and come running back to me and sit on my shoulder it was really cute lol

seeking a feed maybe? Could have been more for affection and reassurance than hunger. and or a female seeking attention. I had a senior BFA hen who would do similar when she was feeling needy. Sorry for your loss.

I offer my sincere sympathy... my heart aches for the loss of such a sweet little bird. I wish we had been able to guide you in helping her, and I hope we can support you now in grieving her.
I don't know what that noise was, but I hope you can have an avian vet available in the future to help you prevent/address any issues.
What a precious little bird...

Our sorrow at your lossof little April. Bless you for taking a frail life and trying to make it better.
I made a donation in April's name to the Cornell Univ. Vet college to be used exclusively for parrot related studies and programs. RIP April.

I'm so sorry for your loss...

I have to ask you though, what is that box that she is standing in and chewing a hole through in the video? At first I thought it was a nest box, but at 2.5 years old obviously not...However, whatever that furniture she is standing in and chewing through/on looks to be made of laminated wood/laminated particle board, which is not a good thing to let them chew on, just as an FYI...

The sound does sound like a cry for affection, almost like that of a non-weaned baby that is either hungry or just wants a comfort-feeding, that's exactly what it sounds like to me. And it may be that if she was hanging out and spending her time inside of a box like that, that she was crying for comfort just like a baby in a nest box...

If she was an unweaned baby when you got her from the breeder and you took over her hand-feeding at a very young age, it's quite possible that she had some type of Gastrointestinal infection, likely a fungal/yeast infection throughout her GI tract that was keeping her from developing properly, weaning properly, and causing her to be extremely ill. This is not uncommon with baby birds who have issues weaning/trouble getting off of the formula/wanting their "mammas" comforting all the time, etc..

Again, I'm very sorry for your loss...
