Can anyone tell me if soy beans are OK for parrots? Mine loves them and I looked up their nutritional value and think they are OK, but I would like some reassurances. Thanks.

Hey Birdbrain,i've feed soybeans to my birds for years now and to the best of my knowledge they're fine. That being said the issue is with how the beans are grown. My birds love fresh ,still green beans but finding them that aren't covered in chemicals can be a challenge.A farmer friend will plant a short row for me off to the side somewhere but they rarely produce very well, a better choice might be to grow your own, which your birds will love.

I was doing research on soybeans in a parrot's diet and stumbled upon a link to this thread. I figured I'd bump it since it is old and see if any more info or opinions have formed.

I fed Perjo a handful today and she loved them.

I still have the problem of finding fresh beans that aren't covered in chemicals. I have grown my own a couple of times.

I too have been feeding endamame (soybeans) for many years. Most of my birds love them, likely because they are protein-rich. Because of pesticide concerns, they are organically grown and offered just twice per week. (I fully realize the term "organic" is not a total panacea!)
