I want to put a clip on lamp on Gracie's cage with a full spectrem bulb. I may do this with all my birds, but I think the added light will help add a little more heat to my little plucker. While her weight isn't bad, the vet said she'd like to see about 40 more grams on her, she's probably using her energy staying warm. My house is at 70 right now, central heating so its not COLD but for a tropical bird with no feathers.. its not that comfy either.

Anyway, does anyone have a lamp clipped to their cage? What kind do you have? I was looking at the ones made for full spectrum lighting and they're 80 dollars for a lamp and a small cage thing (that looked easy enough to make if I was at all creative.)

I would be interested in what you find by way of lighting.
My male eclectus started picking in his first moult, and we have since removed him from the window because it may have been freaking him out. we try and put him outside in a smaller cage sometimes but the days are usually just too cold at the moment.

Ekkie have one of the worst bites of the parrot species. As they grind and bite at the same time. Not to discourage you form getting one of course they grow out of it with the proper training. Just like the terrible 2s They try to test your boundary's is all but they r wonderful loyal birds.
Just try not to react And use the "UP" command as soon as they bite as this enforces the dominance and re-enforces that you r the flock leader and boss,
Good luck in your serch:green1:

Very interesting, what is their preferred climate? I do not have my Eclectus as of yet, I will be bringing him home in August.

Oh yes, the bite can be ferocious. Second only to my Blue Front Amazon!

They are also very stoic and can be hard to read. All I have left is my female, and she's distinctly a one-person bird. Very calm and sweet, though - with me!

Hi I have an Eckie and his name is Barny, he is a is quiet bird, not very interested in his toys ...also does not talk much although does when I am inside the house. He loves to cuddle.

He eats vegetables, barley quinoa linseed brown rice, and loves chick peas. I offer him fruit , but not very interested. sometimes I give him a quarter of a hard boiled egg including the shell. He wastes a lot.:green1: His stools are a good colour but he poops a lot. is this normal? His tail feathers are very tatty and does not seem to have many.
I have a cockatiel and his tail feathers were like this when he was young so maybe his will get better.
He spends most of the day out of his cage also seems to stand on one leg when he sleeps . Is this normal

Would love some advice.

When a cockatiel is standing on one leg it usually means that the bird is in a calm state and is healthy.

Ok I read somewhere that they can and will eat meat. Is this fiction or not? I only found it in one place and not in the book I read.

I read that as well (meat ok that is)..our Ellie adopted us 15 months ago and everything we learned was via internet search until now. We give Ellie the occasional chicken bone and a little bit of well cooked chicken (nothing raw or under cooked ever)...

What do our forum Ekkie experts say to advise us newbies: Is a little meat during molting (need specific) or chicken bone (cooked) ok for Ekkie's? Aware during previous readings here about animal protein risks and would not feed same regularly.

I use a scale with a pertch to weigh them daily . they are not adults as yet . 14 months old female being 2 weeks older . he always weighs much then her . she weighs 362 g he 322 g . im wondering should i be concerned ?
