"Birdie". Sun Conure
We always gave our keets millet when I was growing up. It was an essential. I now have a Sun Conure. Is there any nutritional value other than just the fun of tearing it apart?

Millet does have beneficial qualities. It's low in fat and high in carbs. Millet contains B vitamins, calcium and antioxidants. It also contains serotonin. It's beneficial to pluckers both for it's calming effect and the fact it's both a treat and a preening toy. Most birds love it, even the large species. A fresh supply of millet comes in handy when an ill bird has lost it's appetite. It can be cooked or crumbled on chop or pellets to make healthy foods more appealing. It's a great way to make friends with hand shy birds. It's also a good tool when training, held between a thumb and forefinger you can train your bird to very gently take it from your hand.

All of mine love Spray Millet. For some, an entire strand is placed in the cage, for the more wasteful it is cut into strips about 2 inches long and placed in the food bowl.
