Green Cheek concure - Silver
Hi guys, im new here and hoping someone can help me... ive got a green cheek who is approx 15-16mth old. recently he's started an extremely annoying habit... anytime someone walks into the kitchen he starts screeching and wont stop until they walk out again. its making it next to impossible to cook dinner, do dishes etc. its driving me crazy and i dont know how to get him to stop screeching when i go in there... Please help...:confused:

Welcome to the forum. All I could think to do was you could move his cage away from view of the kitchen. If he can't see you go in he might not think you are in there.

Cody does this too (but not really to an extreme, but especially when the water is running!). Just try to ignore it. If you scream in at him or enter the room to get him to stop, it's all encouraging the behavior. When someone is in the kitchen, just be ready with a treat the second he gets quiet. Then, keep rewarding him every time he is quiet, and get longer between treat times so he has to stay quiet longer to get it. With consistency, this might stop the behavior. After a while, he may just stop on his own as well. Just have to be patient, even though we all know how hard that is! :p

thanks guys. he cant see into the kitchen where he is atm. the kitchen and the bathroom are the only rooms he cant see into. i thought it had to do with the water to begin with because he did it a few times when i was in the shower. (turns out i can put him in the sink with some water while im in the shower and hes happy). but now its just anytime someone goes in there... i'll give the treats thing a go though. :)

They certainly are strange little birds. :p But I think that's part of what makes them so interesting! :)

Good luck with the screaming issue! And, where exactly are pics of your little guy?? We'd all love to see him! :)

im not sure GreenCheek. i had one loaded up as a profile picture and it tells me its there but its not appearing on any posts.. any idea why?

The Profile picture will show on your profile. It is your Avatar that shows up on posts :)

Dont keep your bird in the kicthen its not safe! I heard if you ignore it (yes it takes time) and reward when she dose not screem it will go away.
