we're looking into bringing a larger parrot into the home. We don't care about talking ability or looks. The most important thing for us are emotional stability and a bird that will more likely to be a family bird. We have a daughter who is fantastic with our current flock. We are looking for a stable species because she will have friends over, and lets face it, as long as one of these birds is going to live, we will certainly experience changes in our lives.

We are considering:

Timneh African Grey
Male SI Eclectus
Meyers
Pionus (not sure which)

We have no local breeders for me to interact with these species, which is why I'm relying on your experience, opinions and recommendations. As we did with our crimson bellied conure, We will have to purchase a bird and have it shipped.

Thanks for your help!

I would say either a BH Pionus or a Male Ekkie would be a good choice for you:)

Ok, thanks....is there a difference between the BH Pionus and Maximilian or bronze wing that makes one a better companion than another?

The Eclectus is so beautiful, and although I'm used to feeding the current group a variety of fresh veggies/grains/fruits in addition to their pellets and seeds, I don't know about the dietary stuff with the Eclectus, which kind of put them at the bottom of my list. Maybe I'm making it too much of a consideration?

I know a few people that have BH Pionus and I have to say, they seem to be the calmest Birds I have ever known.

How about an Alexandrine??

. Maybe I'm making it too much of a consideration?

No, in my opinion you are not making it too much of a consideration. They DO require a VERY good diet, wide variety of foods. NO dyes in their food, LOTS of fresh veggies and certain fruits. They are not the easiest birds to properly maintain.

A amazon mealy might be a consideration. Very stable emotionally and large like you wanted.

Yes it is.
The BH is smaller and more louder. The Maxi is calmer, bigger and sweeter. <3
First I was looking at a BH just because the nicer colors. But I call people and Google a lot and made my choice. I have never had such a sweet boy before. And I'm so happy that travel so far for this little guy.
Eloy is very active and play a lot. (he is still very young) We are doing tricks which he likes a lot.
He take all new things with peace no matter what it is. He is never afraid of new things or people, only curious. And one thing to, he don't know what evil is. He only has a large loving heart! <3
And today I think that Eloy is the most beautiful parrot in the world.
