Strange Behavior

My 13 year Cockatiel has started coming out of his cage and going to sit under a lamp all day. He has gotten very mean and will fly at us and attack us if we get near where he is sitting. I took him to a Vet yesterday and was told he seems healthy and he is eating and his poop looks normal but today he is back under the lamp squatting down low like a duck sitting.

My concern is that 2 years ago his brother started doing the exact same thing and I thought he was just cold from it being winter. Then one day he was wobbly and I took him to the vet and he died about 20 minutes after we got home.

Does anyone have any ideas why he is doing this? I am tending to think that maybe he is old and might be dying and I am losing sleep over it even tho the vet said he was okay.

Unless it's very cold, the poor little guy could be looking to keeping warm. I think the Vet should investigate a little more, it's possible he has a bacterial infection. But yes he is a fair age & if only on a seed diet he has just about reached his life expectancy.

Did you take him to an Avian Vet if not maybe you could make an appointment & have further tests done.

Did the vet do any tests? It might be a good idea to have a blood panel done. That way they can find out how his liver, kidneys, some important vitamins and minerals, and his white blood cells are doing.

Also, are you sure it's a boy? It could be a girl trying to make a nest. My cockatiels got mean when they were nesting, but once we got them away from the nest they were fine.

I hope you figure it out! Puck was acting weird this morning so I'm taking him to the vet this afternoon...
