Strange budgie behaviour

Hi there
We got a female budgie a week ago from a bad conditioned place. She’s been there for about four years. She’s a little cage bound. We let her out for the first time yesterday and she was super calm the whole time. She accepts a millet spray from my hands. She was on an almost all - seed diet before and we’re transitioning her to more veggies and pellet and seeds so a very various diet. We also have a green cheek conure who lost his friend and is very attached to me. She has a problem with her eye and we’re going to see the vet with that next week but I just wanted to ask why she does this in the video. She scratches her eye so could it be scratching her back or neck? Thanks for the answer.

My budgie Valentino does exaclty this when I need to take him to the vet, and I have to put him in his much smaller travel cage. Val does it because he wants to get out

Hmm that's interesting. When I open the cage door she doesn't come out though because she's still cage bound and afraid. So this behaviour is normal?

I would say so, yes. Val is not hand tame either, and does not automatically hop out of the travel cage when I open the door for him. Interestingly, he is perfectly happy to sit in his much bigger every-day cage, either with the door closed or wide open, singing all day long and never exhibits that kind of behaviour. But the moment I pop him in his travel cage he starts turning somersaults and wants OUT!!!

Yay thank you. I guess I overreacted. By the way Laura, I saw your post about losing your feathered friend. I’m so sorry for your loss. I can feel you my other conure got lost like that too. I hope you’ll find your friend.

That is a good thing though, in many cases (over-reacting-- b/c with parrots, sometimes even UNDER-reactions feel like over-reactions ! Always investigate/take it seriously if they do something weird, because one over-reaction is less serious than one under-reaction and they do hide illness like pros--- so it's excellent and essential that you were/are vigilant.
