Hi conure people!

So, I love bluecrowns and patagonians (don't have a bird yet), but have noticed that many breeders don't differentiate between subspecies...did you all pay attention to the subspecies when you were looking to buy one or just go with what they had?

For example, I prefer the "sharp tail" subspecies of blue crowns, with the lower mandible being black, the blue on their heads is more vibrant and they also have some blue on their chests. I've noticed the same kind of thing with patagonians (size, feather/beak coloring).

Maybe my concern is that if breeders aren't aware of what subspecies they are selling they may not be paying close enough attention to their craft of breeding.

Not totally sure where I'm going with this but wanted others thoughts/opinions on the subject.

THANKS! :orange:

Sorry, don't know where you're from, but here in the states, since importation has pretty much dried up, so has the gene pools of many species, leaving to question many of the true species of what is available today.....unless a breeder can produce breeding records going back 10, 20, 30 years or more, much of what you may be told could very well be someone's supposition, sad though it may be, especially when there is no uniformity/accountability in the maintenance of those records or a bird's bands.....

I might be inclined to wager that half of the people who purchase new birds this year, have no idea what denotes a lesser patty or an Andian patty, so if your interest runs to sub species, you may have your research cut out for you, tracing the lineage of a bird you might be interested in, but good luck.....
