Gilbert Oliver, Blue Crown Conure; Georgie, Sun Conure (2/8/01-8/8/12) RIP little girl; Percy, budgie 1993-1999. RIP Pepito-spanish timbrado canary
If anyone local to me (I am in central NJ) is considering buying a sun conure any time soon, there is one in a local pet store I would really love to see with a loving and understanding family.

I'll explain. In August when Georgie died, i was looking at every bird in every store, even if i just ran in for some dog food, i couldn't help but go hang out with the birds. I fell in love with these 2 sun conures named Mango and Kiwi. They were definitely the most fun, sweet, outgoing, happy suns i had ever met. I was really impressed. They barely squawked and played together beautifully. They were about five months old then (meaning about a year old now, 13 months). I have thought about those birds over and over since then, but since i got Gilbert, i hadn't been back to visit them. Then today I ran out of dog food and my normal store was closed, so i ran in for a bag of food and saw an empty cage where Mango and Kiwi had been......

but not empty....

Kiwi had sold and Mango was alone and a completely transformed bird. Seemingly unhappy, neurotic and plucking his/her feathers. I could barely get the bird to even make eye contact with me. This bird was extremely friendly to me the other times i visited.

Anyhow, i'm sorry i'm going on so much, but this bird just broke my heart today when i saw the transformation. I know the core personality of this bird is good!! I hope and pray he gets the right family to bring that fun personality back to life.

The bird still has the $599 price tag on the cage. This bird needs a home and some love and attention, so i thought i would throw that information out there, just in case anyone in my area is looking for a sun conure and would possibly be a good fit for Mango. The store is in Raritan, NJ near the Somerville Circle.

Sorry, I'm in Florida, but, I thank you for your noble effort on this angels part.

Aw so sad :( That is really a heart breaking story. I hope he finds a good home...

I'm going to keep asking around. Even though i'm not in the position to take him right now, there is someone out there who will be right!! Sadly i remember last summer one of the younger girls who worked in the store wanted them but couldn't afford them.

UPDATE-Mango is being pulled off the floor and taken to an avian vet tomorrow at 2 PM. I called Petco and let them know i was concerned and the store called me back promptly and said they made an appointment for him and that they have had a number of calls regarding this bird. Let's keep Mango in our thoughts. This is his first step toward a better life!! While i had the store manager on the phone (who was very polite, actually, and seemed to truly show concern) i said "just give the bird to an employee who wants him or something...just let him have a home at this point." I still "want" him in a way, he was such a love, but it's not the right time and place for another parrot for me right now. He deserves THE RIGHT home.

I'd love to take him in but I only have enough space for one conure. I hope he finds a good home! This is definitely a bird that needs someone to take him home and help him heal. I wonder how the other bird dealt with being separated from him.
