Hi everyone! We just got our new conure from a older lady who had him only on a parrot seed mix for food and I am wondering should I change this or not?? She says he is not yet a yr old and is still green on his back and wings! And if I should change it how slow do you do it!

Hi, I would mix his parrot seed with a good quality pelleted food, and offer fresh veggies too. Maybe start with mixing the seed and pellets, see how well that is received and then start offering some of your food (if it is whole wheat pasta or brown rice, veggies...) and see how he likes that.
My conure was generally a little glutton. :) She liked food and would eat almost anything i offered, unless she specifically didn't like it and then she threw that food out. (she made it pretty clear what she thought of what i gave her!)

oh yeah, i forgot about this because i'm a vegetarian, but Georgie also LOVED chicken and turkey on occasion. It was her biggest treat. Just be forewarned that birds have a tendency to love junk food that is bad for them. She would beg for things she couldn't have, so i kept a supply of more reasonable treats (fruit) to give her when she would beg.
In her lifetime, oh the things people fed her.....my mother called me from my house when she was birdsitting and said "georgie likes french fries and fried chicken". I almost fell over. Not good food for a bird (or a person really). Definitely don't offer the 'bad' foods, because your bird will wholeheartedly want some and beg.

Thank you for the reply! I am very new to this my little birdie was rehomed to me! I went to see my little guy and this lady was whacked out on drugs (admittedly) and she had a total of 200 birds! I feel like I have rescued the poor guy! He is totally green on his back and wings so I assume that means he's between 6 months to a yr? Also I don't think she ever let him out of his cage! We are making progress though he will eat out of my hand and is sticking his head out of his cage! Poor guy didn't even have any perches or toys in his cage! So will I have to train him to play with his toys??

Sounds like he is young and i would think he will take to his new home VERY well. They do love toys and chew them apart quickly. They tend to prefer certain toys over others, so i just continued buying the ones Georgie seemed to like best.
Sun conures actually enjoy learning some basic tricks (Georgie tried to use it for leverage when she wasn't getting her way! "Look at me, i'm being cute...you like this! Can i have my way?") And i think almost all of them LOVE to dance! Play music and bounce around in front of him and he will probably join in soon enough.
