Can the fids have corn on the cob? Will the cob harm them? Does the corn need to be cooked? While I'm on the subject, what about field corn? But tonights menu is sweet corn on the cob as people would eat....

Yes, they can have corn- cooked or raw, doesn't matter. If it's cooked, just make sure it's not too hot. Just make sure it's pesticide-free. I doubt they'll even go after the cob part... You could even leave the husks on and it'll be a foraging toy ;)

Ivory loves fresh corn on the cob, I usually give her a piece cooked or at least blanched to make sure no buggies or bacteria. I cut a whole cob into 3 sections and use one of the fruit/veggie kabobs you can get for birdies to hang it in her cage. She will eat the corn, but does not bother with the cob itself.

The husks (leaves) are a huge hit with birds too. Clean them and put them flat in your oven on low heat for a few hours to dry them out, major forage fun!

I generally cook it for them. But yeah, Cob and all. A food that's also a chew toy. That's why God invented shop vacs!

A good thing to remember about corn is that if it not organic it is a GMO.

I've also done the husk on, raw, with a screw or eye bolt through them, and just hung up in the cage. Pretty cheap bird toy, really. Three for a dollar, or so, in season?

:eek::eek::eek::eek:Just wanted to thank everyone! Fids loved the strange food and attacked and killed the monster.....so, in retrospect we should be ready for the next corn on the cob attack....lol At least they got some healthy fresh nutrition from the monsters.....http://www.parrotforums.com/images/smilies/eek.gif
