Green cheek conure - Sydney (Syd) Hatched 2/2017
Is it possible? He is only 4 months old and I haven't stood over him just chatted as you do.

A couple of nights ago as I was putting him to bed he said 'good boy'! I did a double take but he said it several times. To be honest I decided I was deluded, but you know how little kids rehearse what they have heard that day when they are going to sleep? Well he chuntered on for about 20 minutes, I listened but didn't hear a repeat so decided I had really lost it.

Then last night - bedtime again and there he was. He goes all quiet, cocks his head in that way that they do, looked me straight in the eye and chunters very quietly and there it was again 'good boy' several times as clear as a bell. You could have knocked me down with one of his feathers.

Now does that mean he thinks I'm a boy or that he knows how gorgeous he really is? LOL time for a chat about the birds and bees perhaps! :04:

Mine is around 10 months and only repeats sounds of words but can say kisses but not how we say. Hard to describe it but when i say i love you he says it back but as a tune i know what hes saying. Mothers always inturpret their babies.

When a piece of paper says that such and such parrot start to talk at * months, that is n average, maybe with one breeder, or several. That is not to say that a precousious youngster might talk a bit earlier. ANd breeders.. well they will say, oh these * conures talk ( if they are going to) around 6 months, as a hedge, so if yours talks earlier, well you're in heaven now, right? Its like ued car salesman - these engines list for 100K miles and you drive yours for 250k miles - dont you feel good?

Obviously you have a talker, and it should b encouraged. Personally I use one of those repeat boxes sold on many parrot websites ( used to use a 2 minute answering machine tape, but no one has them anyy more) I use it for a few weeks until the baby starts to talk like yours. Now you can start to say Goo Boy, or Hello, or what ever. My little Salty, a species of Amazon not known as great talkers, say lots of stuff, some times in context too. And my first parrot, Winston, a YNA, would say anything I wanted, by using those tapes, - sing - talk - sounds anything. And he would pick uup tuff on his own.

Way to go "Good Boy Syd"

Add words to Good boy, he will build his vocab and it is really funny hearing them trying new words out.

more than possible. I had my guy for 5 weeks as his first home away from the breeder and he learnt to say "what you doing" "thank you" and "night-night"

thank you was the one I liked him saying the least because he would always follow with a nice long screeching fit due to excitement

Truer words were never spoken.

My little guy would try and say Step up at only 5 months old. He does not say it much now but he learned a lot more words since than. He has gotten better at talking since he had gotten older.

It is so much fun to see them grow and learn new words much like a child.
