we are taking a road trip on Oct 13-17, but With My birds bacterial infection, is it best to take him? he is already stressed and sick, and it can result in him being more stressed when we are driving; it’s an 11-hour drive. He is taking antibiotics. I have no one that can look after him. My avian vet clinic doesn’t offer boarding. My trip is non-refundable I just don’t know what to do. My vet said I can take him, but we never know what can happen.

He loves car rides, he gets excited seeing outside the window.

Has anyone taken their birds with them while there bird is taking antibiotics?

I think the stress of being left in a strange place (boarding) without you (his companion-human) might be harder on him than a road trip. I say take him with, and ensure that he gets good-quality sleep each night. I am always extra careful of nutrition and sleep for a parrot with an illness or ailment.

It doesn’t seem like you have much choice but to take your bird along. My birds have done pretty well traveling because they were WITH MOM. And they dug sitting on my lap or right next to me for several hours.

Would be good to check and ensure you can have a bird with you, though.

Good luck!
