4 year old African Grey
Hi....I'm a retired animal control officer. I live in Southern California, I have had several birds in the past. I just recently adopted a four year old African Grey. So much has changed in the last 25 years. There is so much conflicting information about what can and cannot be fed. I might need some help. Excited to have a place where I can get some information.

Welcome to you! I believe you will find this forum extremely informative!

Yes! Welcome! Lots of info on the African grey threads re: diet and other recommendations. This is a great place.

A warm welcome to you and your newly adopted grey. Congrats, what is your friend's name? We'd love to see photos.

There is a wealth of conflicting info on diets. There are also too many new brand names to count, it can be a little overwhelming. Everyone has their own ideas about bird diets but most agree a variety of fresh veggies and fruit should be included. Here's a couple of links that may help.

In fact you may want to browse our diet section at your leisure.

Questions and new discussions are always welcome as well.

Welcome to you and your new Grey! We love to talk food, and you'll observe many techniques and styles.

Greys can be rather stubborn, so creative means will be helpful to adapt to a presumably healthier diet.

I'm sorry
Wait you adopted a grey on purpose?
Oh dear....
Take it back while you still can!!!

As Gandalf said in Lord of the Rings
"The Balrog...run you fools"

I'm teasing of course. I just joined this site myself. We are seven days into this new adventure. There is a wealth of information on this site. I have been soaking up do's and don't for days now. Every time I prepare a meal for Jack N D Box I hit the search box. Turns out pretty much whatever I like he can have. I made a list of the DON'T FEED THIS on my phone. Oh and no teflon cookware allowed. My biggest problem now is how much can he have of the things he really likes.

You are a hero in my book.

Take care and please fasten your seatbelt, we may be in for a bumpy ride

Welcome! I'm so jealous you have Greys, but I'm not a fit owner - too mobile - so I don't begrudge you. As long as you post PICTURES and STORIES, see the Life and Times of Nigel for example, everything will be fine.
