I promise, I PROMISE!!! I will post pics as soon as I get my laptop syned with my outdated, dinosaur of a 'putor!! PROMIIIIIIIISE!!!!! (Besides, 'tis time to update my photos as well!).
Birdcrazy ... hmm, not sure exactly what to say to "convince you" about an attraction to a Pi.
Pi's are generally not sought after birds as they ('ceptin for the Blue Headed) are not brilliant in color. Maximillians (which is what Mojo is) are generally thought of as the more, (at least IMHO), overlooked of the species. They are of what I term a quiet beauty. (In natural light, their purple, irridescence shines bright and they are--again IMHO--quite attractive and brilliant).
The Pi species has a natural (very distinct) odour; musky of sorts. One either is taken by it or ... well, just doesn't like the smell. Mojo has the musky smell of the Pi species; and, I enjoy it very much...it is a wild, yet very subtle smell that one would not notice unless within close proximity. The other thing characteristic to the Pi is the notorious nervous "wheezing". Not all Pi's exhibit this behavior (and I've only on Blue Moon occassions seen it with Mojo), but they will get frightened or excited or over stimulated and begin a heavy panting coupled with a "wheezing" sound and motion. This is NATURAL and is not an onset of illness. It is just a quirk of the species.
Pi are not notorious for their talking ability; though, (may I boast?), Mojo seems to do very well in his mimicking. He has learned to say (time-correct and time-specific) "Good morning" (in the a.m.) and "Goodnight" (in the p.m.). (**Deanna beams brightly** ... ROFL). (I don't know how many words are in his vocabulary, but I am amazed at the level of speech that he does have).
Mojo, as an individual birdie (all are different, in different circumstance), became cage aggressive as a result of my lack of individual time with him. Now that I've (or at least am now, closing) closed my business, I dote on them all as much as I can. As soon as Moj is moved away from his cage, he just melts in my hands. He is a goof ball if there ever was one, loves front flips, back flips ... he is a speed racer around his cage. I CANNOT wait to get my rope-thing that I ordered because I'm just sure he is going to go bonkers with it.
Pi's have been called "little sumo wrestlers" and veterinarians that are unfamiliar with the species oft think they are overweight. But, most are not. They are naturally large bodied; not fat. They are often thought of as perch-potatoes ... I've not ever seen that propensity in Mojo--he is ANYTHING but a perch-potato ... ever-constant movement, talking, interacting. I love him immensely.
Don't know if you're convinced! LOL ... But, the first time I layed eyes on a Maximillian Pionus, I knew that would be the bird I would get.:smile015:
