i've had my green cheek for about a year now he's awesome and super sweet and really quiet which is important because I'm in an apartment. I've been thinking about getting him a buddy for when I'm at work but I'm concerned about it changing the way he acts. does anyone have two gcc and can offer advice? would I be better off going with other bird?

Unfortunately, there is no way to predict how your green cheek conure will act with another bird in the house, regardless of species.

I agree with Monica. I'll tell you my story, for what it's worth: I had Fiji for 6 months before getting another GCC. I probably never would have gotten another one, if I worked from home or was retired. Fiji is a great bird, very bonded to me and hubby. I felt guilty leaving her alone while we were at work, even though when we were home, she was ALWAYS out of her cage. So, I got a bigger cage and another baby GCC from the same breeder. They bonded within a few days, after quarantine. NOW, Fiji is much less clingy, although she still likes to ride around on your shoulder. The baby bird, Sundance, never got the time to bond with just people...so he isn't as sweet as Fiji. In fact, he is downright bratty, although we work with him every day. It's like he is Fiji's bird, we got him for her.

Even though Fiji isn't as clingy as she used to be, I'm still glad we got Sundance. I know Fiji is happier having a little friend to play with while we're at work. Also, Sundance taught Fiji to talk! He says, "here's a baby bird!" and she says, "baby bird!" :D

I got my GCC a buddy. Sheldon was sweet and cuddly a little beaky but not terrible. Cooper his buddy was very people shy, didn't really enjoy being held. Fast forward 8 months. Sheldon is VERY bonded to Cooper and likewise. Sheldon should now be renamed JAWS because he attacks me every time I go near his cage. I lost my little buddy. I can no longer hold him at all because he goes for the hard bite every time.

I won't separate them now but it sucks that I don't have my cuddle bug anymore.
