Thousands of parrots rescued when will it stop?

Or at least until people stop buying birds. Although then, they'll just start selling their pelts and grinding up their bones to sell as an aphrodisiac.

If all countries participated in CITES and the World Parrot Trust didn't make it so difficult for Africa to sell captive raised greys, then it might be a little better. It doesn't help that greys may be seen as a status symble in Africa so many people get these birds expecting them to be something they may never be, and after a few years, will dump the birds.

But then, CITES isn't really about protecting species... it's about the sale and trade of said species around the world.... if there are none in the wild, that's an issue for them.

I dread to think what a group of ornery and disgruntled parronts would do to those people.

Of course only for a few hours a day, gotta make sure our fids are well fed and entertained

IMO it's dependent on awareness and experience. Experience of interacting or owning a parrot and awareness of this issue regardless of whether you own one or not. I'm the only person in my close sphere of family and friends that owns a parrot, and many of my sphere think birds are stupid animals to own and dirty and just sit in a cage and make noise. It's ignorance. Most of them have a dog and they cannot wrap their head around hwo a bird could be as bonding and affectionate as a dog and as we know obviously smarter. They think birds are basically a nuisance as a pet.

So A) out of sight out of mind, means they really don't care if a species of parrot is in danger of disappearing b/c it's not a dog or their dob B) this isn't a mainstream issue unfortunately, you're not goign to stumble upon this on a typical Facebook news feed. You're only going to hear about this in specific forums like this or a vets facility, IF they have an avian vet.

Sadly, that is the fundamental truth of our species. Save for those who really care, and climbing the steep mountain of ignorance and greed is almost impossible. There are some great saves, but not nearly enough.
