Hi there!
So i have an AGP
I believe he is 10 or 11 yrs.. He is a rehome, they told me he was about 5 years old and ive had him for about 6 years or so.
We have been struggling with seizures since we got him. They did seem to clear up for months at a time.
Hes always been a bit clumsy.. Anyway his seizures happen only when he sleeps.
I live in a small area so vets have just put him on dmg and such. He us now on something that goes in his water and is a drug.. My vet is unsure about a possible brain tumor, but with all the reading i do on African greys, seizures seem to be common. He had a really bad seizure a week ago. He was unabke to use his legs for 3 hours amd wasn't responding to well. I thought i was going to lose him. Im trying everything that i can.
Hes a picky eater but love papayas. Hes a pellets not seed and gets green apples, watermelon, eggs, green grapes, corn, and peas. He doesn't like most veggies. I have him on a calcium supplement now as well. Not sure how long it would take if calcium is his issue. He also now has a full spectrum uv light. Anyway now when he sleeps he jerks around and puts his wings out and stuff. Lately he has a hard time. And vets aren't sure. Again im in a small area the vets cant do major testing. Does anyone have these issues? Please read everything before commenting. People see seizures and scream go to the vet... But they dont read.. And please be kind. My boy is very muched loved and taken care of. He sleeps im a small cage with the perch pretty much on the floor because of his seizures. He has a big day cage and he is out almost everyday all day. His night cage is beside my bed. My little guy and I need advice.

you say they only happen when sleeping?
Does he have seizures if taking a nap during the day?
At night Do you give him enough light?
if it truly is sleep related I can’t even guess at cause.
Sleep studies are ongoing in humans to this day.
sorry I can’t really help.
you can suggest to your vet to cunsult with a specialist on phone about your case.

Yes it seems to be only when he goes to sleep. Sometimes if he sleeps during the day he can have one. He will often scream and hold on to his perch with one foot for as long as he can till he falls or i catch him. He then shakes and often throws up. He doesn't just have seizures while playing or doing any activity during the day.
He sleeps with a lamp he doesn't do well in the dark.

4 1/2 years old now CAG..got her at 14 weeks...Debbie is still clown! Now almost 4 1/2....never a dull moment!
I know how stressful seizures can be. Our almost 6 year old CAG has suffered 2 seizures in the last year, both have been what I think are stress related..we have never been able to calm Debbie down for nail trims, capturing her is ugly..fortunately the last seizure was at the veterinarian!
We have tried to desensitize her but no luck as yet. Scared to take her for nail trim and she needs it!
I hope you and your friend find some relief, I’m not sure I would be able to take it if Debbie had multiple seizures, bless you for caring for your friend.
