Hello everyone. I am planning on getting a Galah Cockatoo! But I was wandering what you guys though about free flight? I don't have much experience with free flight, and if I do It would have an avian harness. :) I have heard Galahs are great flyers but what do you guys think?

Thanks! :D :white1:

Search through the forums. There is loads.

My birds are all flighted currently. It's pretty important for Galahs - they're prone to fatty tumours, but there are justified reasons that some may clip.

As for free flying outside, I wouldn't without a harness. Some go further into true free flying, but with experience and specialised help.

Galahs make excellent flyers! Free flying is an awesome experience. My blue and gold and I are currently at the early stages of it and are having so much fun. However, it's very involved and unless you can be under the watch of an experienced flyer - I wouldn't recommend it. But! If you can find someone willing to teach you..I wouldn't discourage it. Are you getting a baby? This dramatically helps the process?

That's about all of the advice I give on FF because I'm not really qualified to give much more. I just posted a video here yesterday of my blue and gold and I free flight training.

Thank you for your reply. And yes, I am planning on getting a baby. And with two training perches, and clicker training you can teach your baby how to fly! I don't have anyone that I know of experienced with free flight. But I want my future galah to fly around the house a bit. But I need him to not be crazy when flying around the house.
