Too old to learn?

Adopting a bonded pair of 12 year old Congos in a few weeks. Talking is not a deal breaker just wondering. They are both really gentle, and readily step up, but only speak a couple of words each. I think they were kept mainly for breeding. Getting such a slow talk do you think they will pick it up if enough time is spent with them? Thanks a lot

Yes, I think they can. Grey's mostly make sounds. If these talk already, good chance that they will continue to pick up more. Grey's are enormously intellegent, and observational. Talking is always a bonus with any parrot. Some never talk, some pick up a word or 3, and some you can't get to stop. Congrats on the new fids.

Congratulations!! You'll never know what triggers a bird to talk. Your home may be the right environment to stimulate vocalizations. They are such keen observers of their environments, and often react accordingly.

You know that old saying..."can't teach an old dog new tricks"..I believe that is rubbish..same goes for parrots. Greys,and 'zons,are higly intelligent critters.
Even at 27 yrs old,Smokey was learning new things constantly. I was blessed with her,coz she started talking at an early age. I had only had her 6 months,and I got her when she was six months old,and she turned into a chatter box.
Never having a "pair" of greys..I believe if yours already say a few things,with a lot of attention and talking to them,I believe you'll have a pair of good talkers. GOOD LUCK!
