I'm looking for a t-stand to train my young eclectus. Many of them seem to use dowels, which I have read are not too good for their feet. I also want to make sure that any plastics and metals are safe for him. Does anyone have a stand they can recommend? Thank you

You can wrap the perches using sisal and/or vet wrap. Hope you will get better input later.

Oh, that's an idea! You mean to make the dowel more comfortable to stand on? Do you think I would need to glue it down?

for training purposes I personally don't see an issue with dowel. It's more for long term standing that single width is bad but considering training times and such it's not long they would be on the dowel

Make one out of PVC piping from Home Depot for maybe $10.00, and wrap the part he bird will sit on in vet tape. TIps - fill the base piping with sand or BB's to give the bottom some weight and make the stand stable. Get vet tape at a sporting goods store, much cheaper then from a vet or pet shop.

I use these lightweight tripod travel perches. They come in so handy for all kinds of things! They do have a dowel but for short term use I don't have a problem with that. They also come with treat bowls you can attach and a carry bag. I bought one on amazon and one from Great Companions site.

wow layla those look awesome! I might have to look at one some time

Thank you! Is there a brand of tape I should get from the sporting goods store? I'm not really sure what vet tape is.

Thank you! I'm still really new to this, so would you mind please letting me know what you actually do with these other than training? My bird doesn't fly so perhaps it won't be as versatile for him?

My birds are both clipped. I use these stands for indoor showers with a water bottle, training, they hang out on them when I take a bath...lol. Because they are multi height adjustable, I can use them as table stands also. The possibilities are endless really. When I clean their cages or large tree stands I let them hang out there and watch. Just an easy way to change up their scenery. Super light so I can bring them with me if I travel with them too.

Lol I love to take baths and was wondering how my bird could keep me company while in the tub :) Would you be able to give me the brand(s)? Thank you! :)

Yep. It's a travel tripod perch from Great Companions. :)

Thank you, I didn't see it at Great Companions at first, but I did find it. Good price too!

Did you buy Layla the 1" or 2"? I have an eclectus that is probably would be about the same size when they are both full grown. 2" is recommended on the site, but that seems quite large to me.

I got the one inch ones and they are perfect sized I think.
