Hi all, have had my Yellow Crown or 4 whole days now and already feel like she has been here forever! I knew they were clever birdies before we got her but I didn't realise that they started so young! She is 12 weeks old and came already mimicking a dog bark(breeder had dogs). Now she barks specifically when she sees my dog (doing gentle introductions, Jadey obv safe in cage, dog supervised at all times). Hilarious - spend more time watching the bird than I do the TV :D
She is also doing a lot of rambling away practicing sounds. And she bows her head so I can give her a scratch (won't let my daughter do that yet but will sit on her head and let her pet her like a dog lol).
I guess my question is how do I do my best to make sure she stays this sweet and playful. Anything I should be training her to do other than stepping up and not nipping my toes when I am on sofa! xx

Handling them, consistently, and not accidentally reinforcing the negative.

If the bird feels safe and loved being handled, then it will allow itself to be handled.

Sounds like you're already doing it.

If you use language with them appropriately, and in context, they not only pick it up in context, but will gradually begin using it in context.

Yeah imam huge believer in "Clicker training"... it works for My Ekkie.....
And plenty of snuggle time. You don't have to even be touching the brird for it to become the bird you want it to become .
I have a simple perch at my computer desk and Caesar just being there is enough with some chew toys.
Good luck in the future
