Hello! I have a large stand/perch and was wondering if anyone has had any success in teaching their birdies to sit (and stay) on? All my birds have roomy cages but am thinking of training them to stay on the stand to interact with the family more. My birds are semi clipped (wing clips growing out). It would be nice to be able to put them on the stand with their food/water for a couple of hours a day.

Any ideas how to coax them into actually staying on, and not attempting to fly off after me?

Hi I found this on another post and thought it might help. I've seen it said more than once on this site.

I'd start off with "stationing" them. You place them where you want them to be, step back, stay back briefly, praise them and give them a treat. (clickers come in handy, too). Next time stay back for a longer time. Then distance yourself from them further. Praise, praise and praise when they stay put.

Hopes this helps.

Dopey is right, station training your birds will help!

One thing I would like to note though, is that you should also make sure that they have something to keep them busy while on the stand, such as toys!

Don't expect them to sit on the stand for a few hours and not get bored! They'll need something to do, and you'll need to teach them to play independently!

Don't forget the food too! If you've always got fresh & yummy foods available at that area, it won't be too difficult to convince them to stay.
