Hi all!

DeRita is going to have her first vet appointment (with me anyway) on Wednesday and I was wondering what type of travel type carrier do you prefer?

When I picked her up and brought her home, I used a medium sized plastic dog kennel. It was just a short ride that day, but going to the vet is over an hour ride.

Just wondering if I should get something that lets more light in...the dog kennel is almost like a dungeon...ha-ha! Or should I get her something more like a smaller bird cage that I can fit a perch in?

Toni, I always use a small dog carrier for my Amazons. My avian vet is 30 minutes away, but neither one of them mind to ride in the carrier. They even sing/chat with me while I'm driving. :)

They do make special travel cages, if you want to look into those.

I have set up, but haven't used yet, a wired small dog kennel for my 'Zon. Mostly because I already had it and my little 3 pound dog fits in a cat kennel lol. I can fit a perch in between the bars so he will not have to be on the ground, and I can attach water and food bowls if needed.

Unless I get a bigger vehicle we use small finch type cages. We had to have room in a jeep or truck for two cages, possibly a dog and up to 3 humans. We had to find one just big enough for Foo to fit her tail in and one that Zeki didnt bump his head on. :) We have them permanently set up next to playgyms so the birds constantly go in and out of them so they love them already when it's time to go somewhere.

We have several larger cages that are broke down for if we are staying over night somewhere that can be tossed in the back of the truck and set up when we get to where ever we are going.

With that said, if you can find one that is suitable for overnight use and if it fits in your car that would be the most ideal imo.
