I usually just give them their veg as it comes or chop it up into smaller pieces because my lovies aren't fussy, they like the bit where they get to shred their fruit and veg to bits but today I decided I'd try something new. So I made some parrot chop for them... minus the grains and pasta (i need to go out and get some) but it looks good.

The love birds haven't really gone for it yet so I'll try it out tomorrow morning when they've just woken up and are looking for some yummy food.

Rainbow and Tooki (my rosella's) enjoyed it! Rainbow doesn't like broccoli much but she enjoyed it in this. Tooki kept whistling as he was eating his. I love it when birds squint their eyes when they are eating something that they enjoy. :)

It really was very simple (but effective).

My first attempt:

I just peeled and boiled some sweet potato (chopped, it boils quickly) x2
Carrots finely chopped - 3 or 4
Broccoli - a whole bunch (my birds LOVE it)
Green Cabbage - 4 leaves

I just wanted to try something simple. I just chopped and chopped the veg until it was microscopic (no not really but it was tiny) any more chopping would probably of turned it into some sort of soup... I liked the texture, it was bite sized pieces, not too small or too big. Although I like to give my birds some larger pieces sometimes because they like to chew it to bits and shred the veg. I mashed the sweet potato because it was soft it probably would of mashed itself anyway.

Next time I'll add some more veg, grains, pasta and I'll get some other ingredients. I've been looking at other recipes they all sound yummy.
Anyway my birds enjoyed it! :)

Happy that Rainbow took to the mash because she tends to throw food she dislikes. The lovies still like to play with their food :P

If you make a really big batch of your own birdie mash you can freeze it and give them portions daily. I prefer to give them fresh food daily but this is still great.
