Hi there,

I'm new here to the forum and just got my first conure about a week ago. I have had experience with other birds like doves and love birds before but wanted something a little different this time.

Any way, on to my question ... It looks like one of my conure's tail feathers is twisted. The only way I can describe it, is that all his other tail feathers are correct but it's like one of the on the side is upside down.

Is this normal? Should I try twisting it back, will he do it himself or should i bring him to the vet? Besides this one feather he is happy and healthy.

Any help would be appreciated.

Leave it, he will take care of it himself. My amazon often gets a feather twisted just before he molts it out.

Iago has an upside down tail feather just like you mentioned but it isn't colored like the rest of his tail feathers. It is pure yellow. I just left it and he had it for about a year then it fell out and I thought he was done with it. Well a new upside down yellow tail feather grew back in its place so I'm wondering if it might be some kind of mutation. I will try to get a decent picture of it and post it.

It could also be a broken tail feather that got twisted. It's perfectly fine to leave it as long as it doesn't bother the bird!
