update on sheldons progress

well i was going to post a video but it seems sheldon had other ideas lol he nipped the usb so now i have to wait and post the video when the new usb comes dont know how long this will take since its coming from china so i will just tell you how his progress is. i have had him for 5 weeks he has learned his first trick! its nothing big but it is the bonding and the trust that im after right now. he will jump from one of my legs to the other on cue and to the coffee table as well. all i have to do now is point and he does it. as some of you know i had biting issues with him when i first brought him home and he was very afraid of me or anyone else. now he dosent bite anymore and is doing well. i also had a problem with him stepping up and staying on my hand. not anymore hes doing this just fine on cue as well as he enjoys a good head scratch. today we had a cute thing happen i was laying on the couch covered with a blanket and suddenly i felt him jump from his perch onto me he walked up the blanket as i wasent looking but i felt it so i just peered over the blanket opened one eye and he was staring at me and made a cute birdie tweet lol i look forward to many long years with him and i am so proud of all the progress hes made in such a short time. i have this fourm to thank for that and especially to melinda who has given me alot of great advice. he is like a totally different bird from 5 weeks ago. i will keep you updated as he progresses with video as soon as i get the new usb !!!! lol i am still having problems with him not wanting fruit or veg he just refuses to eat it even when he sees me eating it occasionally he will take a little nip of what im eating but is not interested at all. he is totally on pellets now no more seed!! except for sunflower seeds as a treat for training. he is doing well with pellets now. i just want to get him eating the fruit and veg and ill be happy with his diet. cheers ceejay

thanks yes it was a huge step and its progressing so well we have had 4 good days in a row always ending on a positive note. its so strange for me when i look back 5 weeks ago and i was like "hes never going to stop biting" or hes never going to step up and i was so frustrated. but i am so proud of him!!! wenz i was told by the man that he was 13 weeks old but it was a lie. when i took sheldon to the vet i found out he was a year old i was so upset simply because i was told he was a baby but after i thought about it i felt well he may be an adult. still a baby really but not 13 weeks thats for sure. i thought well its not sheldons fault and regardless of the fact the man was a liar it didnt change how i felt about sheldon. i was ready to give up at one point and then i joined the fourm and got great advice. and now we are on the road to a long happy life together!!! cheers ceejay

yeah i know i called the man and gave him an earfull and told him i was reporting him and he was like oh ill refund your money bring him back i was like are you insane!!!!! i told him your not getting him back for a million bucks mister your an awful seller and a liar i have reported you and i will shut you down. hes still selling galahs on gumtree as babies and they are adults but i was so trusting and i didnt know the difference between an adult and a baby galah as ive only had a teil and a parakeet. and until i moved to australia i never knew what a galah was. i did alot of reserch on them but not on the difference of what a baby and an adult looked like.i should have but that was my mistake but even though i was lied to im happy i have sheldon and ive come along way with him in just 5 weeks. i cant wait to show everyone the video when i discovered the reason i couldnt down load the video from the camera to the pc i was sitting at my pc sheldon was on his training perch i turned around looked at him and (calmly lol) called his name he looked and me and was like la la la i didnt do it i swear:21: lol my husband says (when i texted him to tell him) sheldon better learn how to fly by the time i get home (kidding of course) because sheldon is not flighted. was a funny moment.

That is wonderful news! Congratulations! I too came a long way with Reno with Melinda's advice. She is very good and can explain things so well that even I couldn't screw up ;-) I too was lied to from a breeder. I had the same frustrations, but I thought just as you did. Reno did not ask for this. I chose him, he did not choose me and I will do anything for him. It is unreal how close our stories are! I am very happy for you and Sheldon!

thanks lacey yes melinda gives great advice and she explains it very well. it is awful to be lied to but your right its not your birds fault. i look forward to many years with sheldon he still has things that we have to work on but i have lots of time. im just happy he is progressing like he is it may just be little steps but its better than no steps at all. he ate a corn cob today big progress being as though he wouldnt touch any kind of fruit or veg at all so i just have to keep offering them im sure he will get through the transition. cheers ceejay

thanks lene yeah the vet said if any bird at an adult age like sheldon to try and turn around it would be the galah he said it will be slow but not impossible. he said galahs have a loving nature and they like to be around people. i was so close to giving up i thought this will never happen hes just not going to bond or trust me ever but i was wrong. now i still have a long way to go but i am sure on the right road to having a grat bond and hes trusting me more as each day passes. i am thankful for that. cheers ceejay

thankyou lacey that means alot to me that you think that. although it is hard sometimes simply because birds arent like cats and puppies lol sheldon has been good for me too he has taught me things like patience and understanding hes a wonderful bird!!! i wanted to tell everyone i taught him to wave aswell did it in 2 15 min sessions i was amazed!!! im vey proud of him cant wait to get the usb lol so everyone can see his progerss cheers ceejay

thanks lacey today he learned to shake lol and stepped up and let me put him in his cage for night night lol no problems hes been a good boy all week!!!!!
