Yoshi - Cinnamon GCC R.I.P. :(
Yogi - Normal GCC
We lost our sweet little buddy on October 23. I had posted a few details on here about what happened and wanted to just update everyone. For those of you who didn't see the post, he died of Conure Bleeding Syndrome. This can be caused by lack of vitamin K or can just be with them at birth (which was the case for Yoshi). We started noticing something was wrong because he started staying asleep all day. We brought him to the vet, got blood work and that same night (before the results came back) he passed away in my hands :( The vet told us that even if the results had come back sooner there wouldn't have been many options. The only way to cure this horrible disease is to give them injections of a certain medicine that would cause ulcers and retardation, which I for sure would not have done. I purchased him at PetSmart who says they have the parrots fully checked before selling them (which obviously wasn't the case because they would have detected the disease). PetSmart felt horrible about it and sent me a check to cover the vet expenses (which was $375).

RIP Yoshi - We love and miss you so much and always will. We think about you every single day. Fly free buddy

I am very sorry for your loss. This is the first time I have heard of this disease. Thank you for posting this:)

Yes, this has been very informational to me. Thank you and again I'm so sorry. Do you think you'll get another GCC in the future?

I actually just got another one almost a month ago. I posted a separate link today with pictures of him!

Sorry for your loss! =( RIP Yoshi

Thanks for the update!

So sorry to hear that. Its just sad that these pet stores really just treat them as another prouct to sell. I frequent our petco's here and they are always in need of something. Like, clean water, cage cleaning, something! And those signs saying "Hi my name is ____ (whatever it may be) I am shy at first blah blah" well I see the same exact sign with the same exact name on a totally different bird. Sorry! Just rambling here hhahaha. But I'm glad that petsmart was able to help you out there. Thanks for informing us and keeping us updated.

At least you have the peace of mind knowing it wasn't anything you fed him or a bad diet. Sorry for your loss.

I'm glad that the pet store covered the vet bills! And at least you have closure that it wasn't your fault.

Yoshi was an adorable little guy!

Thanks everyone

Its hard to lose a friend... :( sorry for your loss...

I am very sorry for your loss, thank you for the information though, I hadn't heard of this sickness! I am glad the pet store covered the bills for you.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :(

I've delt with the death of a few conures at my job and I have to blame our supplier for at least one of them, though I don't know if you have the same one. It went while under our care, and if I had more bird experience at the time, I probably could have saved it. (I believe our sick room is far too cold for ill birds.)

I just want you and everyone else to know that there ARE caring people that work in some of those pet stores, and we would do anything we could to help them. I can't say everyone is like that, but at least in my store, a good portion are bird people and are advocates for proper care, and I have *no* qualms about telling my coworkers or going into other stores and complaining about the conditions of animals!

I'm sorry for your loss =( I'm glad he at least he got to spend time with such a caring owner!

passing away in your hands must be a very excruciating experience, i've gone thru tht pain with my pet pigeons some times in my life...................i'm so sorry for you......RIP yoshi....thnx for the update......

What a nightmare. No parent should ever have to go through what you have. I'm sorry for your loss. At least he was loved by you until the very end. He's beautiful. Stay positive. I wish the best of luck to you and your new baby (:

This post just made me cry. I remember hearing about your baby and i'm glad you had closure and really, if there was nothing that could have been done for him reasonably, it's good (although hard) that he got to have a happy and loving life with you and died with someone who really loved him. His life was short but meaningful.

Awww man.. I just freakin read your silly bird story in the sticky! I'm so sorry. I really really hope my new birdy lives a long and happy life, sans crappy illnesses like yours died of. Sorry again. :(

Sorry to hear about your loss... Unfortunately most of the pet shops are like that, $375 to cover the vet care is nothing compared to what you have gone through losing your baby....
