Val is a 2 month hand-fed Vinaceous-breasted Amazon.. I don’t know for a fact whether it’s weakness, stress, illness or simply just adjusting to surroundings. Val’s feedings are totally normal, but he isn’t active much. Just sits in one place usually and stares or goes to sleep. I’ve had him for exactly a week now.

However, droppings seem off to me. If there are any experts out here.. Any help I would really really really appreciate.. I don’t want to lose Val, and if the droppings are an indication of any disease then I’d rush to the vet as soon as I can. Thank you.

Hi mbsparrots, welcome to the forums, I'm sorry for the worrying circumstances though.

I am not a particular expert on Amazon droppings, however if as you say your bird is so young and you are hand-feeding, if it was me I would have him seen to asap by an avian vet if I had any concerns at all about his well-being at such a young age. Birds as you know hide signs of illness very well, and things can go downhill very quickly with young ones in particular, so I would think a visit to the vet is in order. I'm not sure where in the world you are, but this resource should help you to locate an avian specialist should you not already be familiar with one...

I wish you all the very best of luck! šŸ™

Thank you so much for your quick response.. Will get him checked tomorrow asap.. Praying he stays strong and fights this, meanwhile, he is 4 months old, not 2.. That was a typo sorry.. But still very young nevertheless. Anyway, I will do the impossible to ensure he can fight this, and stay strong and healthy. :(

Thank you

Four months is still very young, particularly with hand-feeding still going on and also being around the age where weaning takes place. I hope he grows up strong and healthy for you too - best of luck at the vet's and please do keep us updated :)

Definitely a veterinarian. Dark green urates like in your pictures are commonly associated with bacterial infections, or liver inflammation. With babies things can happen quickly.

Keep extra warm until you can get him in. Recommend around 85f

Also as this infection is associated with green urates ( other are as well, so I'm not diagnosing , just sharing)

Yes, VET asap!! For the reasons stated above.

I am Assuming that you are in North America. That being true, I hope that you received a Hatch Certificate when you purchased this Amazon!! If, not, return to who sold you your Amazon and obtain the documents that has been required in North American for over five-years, now and your breeder should have known that!

Thank you all for the replies. Really appreciate it. Taking him in for tests very soon. Will keep you guys posted. šŸ™

Best of luck with little Val, I hope you can get to the bottom of whatever it is that may be ailing him šŸ¤ž
