Hey parronts, any of you guys collect vinyl albums? I like to get musical soundtracks, but I also sometimes pick up the LPs for newer artists! I really love being able to grab my fave oldie-but-goodies from the $3 bins. I think I have most of 3 Dog Night on vinyl thanks to this, haha.

I have an audio-technica AT-LP120 turntable and Kanto YU speakers. They are definitely not in the parrot room though šŸ˜… I do have a small Bluetooth speaker in my office where we spend the day, but I somehow think he might find more entertainment chewing the LPs instead of spinning themā€¦

I admit vinyl sounds 'warmer' then digital, but the hassle and care needed to enjoy pressings to their full extent vs digital is hands down for me a good trade off. IMHO its more about the quality of the amp and speakers; high grade EQ and speakers can approach the sound of virgin vinyl records. Besides the care of vinyl, technically they start to degrade every time you play them, infinitesimally but each play wears the grooves.

My solution to vinyl was a bit different. The new platter was meticulously cleaned, played once, then turntable and platter were recleaned! I then recorded the album to an extremely high end tape deck, and the vinyl was put away, forever!
My entire system was from a bankrupt recording studio, many thousands $$! Was young, income more than I deserved!
Welp, got married, wifey insisted on getting the house to look like a home! Equipment went into storage!

Oh yeah, I donā€™t disagree, and like I said we use digital audio everywhere else in the house. We just happen to live in a city where vinyl is seeing a resurgence, and getting used copies of some of my favorites on the cheap isnā€™t too hard, plus the LPs for some of my favorite newer artists. Theyā€™re definitely not always in great condition, and I most certainly have had to use various ā€œcleanersā€ magnet brushes etc they offer online. But getting to dig through the ā€œ$3 for $10ā€ bin and finding something Iā€™d been hunting down for way cheaper than online is a nice, low cost joy, haha!

Itā€™s more of a fun hobby for me than anything, I would probably/have gotten laughed off of a serious audiophile online community! Iā€™m sure my kids are very over it - especially after the week when Iā€™d gotten ahold of The Sound of Music for three bucks and everyone had to suffer through the whole soundtrack on repeat while I cleaned the house LOL.

I grew up with my momā€™s record player though, listening to my grandmotherā€™s old Allan Sherman record, and their Styx collection. The sound IS a little warmer, and we had our set up ā€œvettedā€ by one of the turntable specialists in the area (they suggested the speakers also). I believe we have a mid range turntable & speakers. The speakers were expensive (wellā€¦not expensive compared to Kirbyā€™s vet bills!) but the turntable I got for, I kid you not, $35, because the guy who had it thought it was broken. I took it in to the specialist and it only needed a new needle! One of my best craigslist finds ever.

Many of the older vinyl we have arenā€™t in great condition, but thereā€™s something really satisfying about the sound and even the scratchy noises of an older, abused record.

I still have a few boxes of my old vinyl, what a trip down memory lane, scratches and all. It takes me right back hearing it now like I heard it then.

Yeah! Same. I think a lot of it is nostalgia, and when I do buy ā€œexpensiveā€ new LPs, they come with artbooks or the plastic for the vinyl is dyed, so itā€™s something that could be ostensibly displayed instead of played, so itā€™s a different kind of investment.

And, our nice speakers also work for things other than the turntable, so we can stream or hook up our more modern devices and play hi-fidelity music as well. :)

I'm not even sure if anywhere around here sells vinyls. I haven't seen a new one since the probably the 90s. That's neat that they comes so they could be displayed.

My 45 collection goes back to the late 60s, early 70s. I love 70s music, I am really feeling nostalgic now. My first vinyls I got were in 1983 when I signed up to that Columbia or RCA record club. My first order included Alpha by Asia, and Michael Jackson Thriller...lol

They actually still have LP clubs! I havenā€™t signed up for one though as itā€™s rather expensive.

Hereā€™s a few of the LPs I have in special colors:

I have a sneaky suspicion that if becoming a supporting member is still a thing for uploading images, Iā€™m going to need to get on it soon!

Anyway, I think since digital music is so prevalent and convenient that in order to move stuff like this outside of the niche market of people who actually own turntables, they looked at making them a little more attractive. They also have 180g vinyl, which is a heavier and more durable format so that your records hold up longer and retain better sound quality. Itā€™s considered I think ā€œaudiophileā€ quality and I only have one, and it cost a pretty penny as it was a very limited run and I got it secondhandā€¦ otherwise, very happy with my bargain bin finds!

Reorganizing and decided to pull out all my musicals/old soundtracks! There are a lot more I want to get, but I like to wait till they end up in the bargain bin. I think I paid full price for CATS and Labyrinth though, haha.

Honestly the Casino Royale one I only grabbed because it was a buy two get one free, and Iā€™d found two I wanted.
