RIP Paco, Jack, and Echo </3
Okay so I've done a lot of thinking and I really want to give Echo and Paco a aviary to play in during the day. I want it to be big enough for me to sit in with them. I was considering buying one but the reality is I'd never have the money. I seen a lady that had her cockatoos in an indoor aviary built from broken down dog crates. It was huge and sturdy. That or buying a dog kennel and putting and covering the top with something. I heard stainless steel, aluminium, or nickel is safe. Can anyone give me ideas?

I don't know about building an aviary from 'broken down dog crates' but building something large enough for you and your birds will start in the $1,300 price range and go up from there.....building one from scratch may reduce that price by $300-$500, but it all depends on size, design and materials used.....if you do a google search for "walkin aviary" you will find what is commercially available...then...if you do a google search for "build walkin aviary" you will find instructions & design ideas and from there you can formulate what you want.....

Good luck.....

I recently made a threat a out making a aviary and there were a lot of good ideas, one is to make the aviary frame out if PVC pipe.

Many years ago when I built my walk in aviary the price was lower but to build the same exact size I priced it about 25% higher then before so it's not super bad. I used wood and acrylic glass. I loved it and the cleaning was a breeze as I can stand or kneel to wipe stuffs up.

My buddy brought a old tool cage ( a steel cage construction companies use to secure tools on site) from a guy on Craigslist.10'x10' and 8' tall...for $500 bucks .. It was a huge, bolted together easily and very solid..

I found a 8 panel dog kennel that will make a great hexagon shaped aviary. It is 4' tall and roughly 54' diameter. I'm going to put a 2 foot base on it to make it a little taller. I'm going to try to make a raised roof but might just make a flat roof with supports for the outside cover. I've done a lot of research on paint and I don't really trust rustolium paint due to the mixed reviews. However I did find a safe paint that one of my parrot friends have already tested and perfected. They sell it at Ace Hardware. My dad is coming home in a while to help me get the rust off of the material and we'll get the ball rolling. This project is going to be completely collapsible for storage and so I can bring it inside in the winter.

I got the paint yesterday! Now to start taking the rust off tomorrow!
