:greenyellow:I've had 2 particular parakeets for over 2 years. One of them is completely healthy, and slim.

The other is a bit overweight, and gets tired very easily. It's been an issue like this for years, but despite this he's never had any other issues in terms of health(from what i've seen). That said, i recently got a wakeup call and thus I want to help change their diet for the better.

I've mostly fed them an all seed diet(not paying attention to the brand) with the occasional lettuce ad millet spray, but I want to change that. Whether it's getting the best brand of seeds, or the best brands of pellets.

So I was wondering. What should I do? Change it to Pellets, or still get Bird seeds?

If so, what are the best brands available for each?

Should I put vitamin in their water? If so, what is the best brand available?

Any other vegetables besides lettuce I should give them? And how many times a week?

Hi John, good seed is important to a budgies diet but it should not necessarily be to major portion. If you have seed on hand, you might get some Goldenfeast pellets Goldn?obles III | Goldenfeast Direct or a similar pellet feed and start adding a little gradually to her seed by just mixing it in. over a period of say a month increase the amount of pellets until you're adding about 60/40, pellets to seed.
Try fruits a veggies Fruits and Vegetables .
My budgies seem to enjoy the pellets as much as their seed now days.....

Sprouting is also an excellent option for good nutrition :) jar-sprouting is easy and cheap.
Wheat berries, broccoli, radish, red clover, alfalfa..the list goes on, but those are popular and budgies especially love them.
Lots of sprouting "how-to's" on YouTube and the web. Most sprouting seeds and stuff can be found at health food stores and online.

I have the same issue with one of my budgies being a bit overweight.
She's gotten slimmer now after i started converting them to an all pellet diet topped with egg mix. And daily to every other day they get fruits and veggies. Occasionally they get seeds and millets after I clean their cage. For the seeds and water, i put vitasol health supplements to ensure their health.
