Hi everyone. I am confused about Pippen. The last few weeks, she has been having watery poop. Other than that, she seems to be healthy

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Some extra information:
  • Pippen had a rough mould recently, and she's still busy moulting wing/tail feathers.
  • Pippen has Nature's nest pellets, some seed, and chop in her diet.
  • It is summer right now, and She has been drinking a lot more water.
  • When I last weighed her, she was about 80g, which is odd since she is a big cockatiel. What is the normal weight for cockatiels?
  • I have been noticing this same issue in Griffen too.

If you're noticing the same thing in Griffen, it may be contagious. I'd get to the vet, early treatment is so much more effective than late treatment (and it usually costs less). Can you post a picture of the poops?

The weird looking scattered watery poop is Pipp, the normal looking ones are probably Snowy's, maybe John(temporarily in Pippen's cage because I cleaned their cage today.)

Also another thing I noticed is that it smells HORRIBLE. And usually my parents are the first to complain, as my sense of smell tends to be weak.

Ok ima share the info in the description:

Griffen's feces don't look watery, but his vent is very dirty. I hate holding him, but I had to show what it looks like in order to get accurate advice.

The time line is the biggest concern here as any Parrot at any given time can have a watery stool caused by any number of single moment issues. Ongoing, that is cause for concern and correlates with drinking more than usual over the same time.

If I follow correctly you're coming-up on ten days and that implies the need to visit an Avian Vet and soon!

Yeah... it's been a while since Pipp was like that but my parents weren't concerned at all.

If you see any vent pasting rather than just stained feathers, then you know your bird really doesn’t feel well and isn’t taking care of himself. If they get dirtier bottoms I would bring them in to the vet asap.

Smelly bird poops indicate a problem. Budgie poops should not smell much. That means there’s a type of bacteria in the gut that should not be there. (Mammal poops smell but mammals have different gut bacteria than parrots.)

Pippens vent isn't dirty though... but Griffen's is. Sunny's vent is a bit dirty but it's because of her diabetes.

Oh crap... she's definitely sick. First, yesterday morning she lost a lot of vent feathers(likely plucked as it's too many to be moulted), and her feces look like this:

So, I failed convinced my parents to let me take them to a vet, but I did convince my mom to send the vet some pics. Hoping the vet will say yes.

Now it's blueπŸ˜•πŸ€¨ maybe it's dye from her toys?? Because when she chews on this specific toy there is some blue on her beak... but it can't possibly cause watery poop??

No, likely the dye can’t cause watery poop. But indeed that poop looks like diarrhea. Cockatiel poop shouldn’t smell like much. Can you take her in this weekend? I’m betting her tummy or bottom hurts if she’s plucking vent feathers. Is there any emergency vet?

PM if you need any advice giving your birds supportive care. I am worried because 80 grams sounds skinny to me. Can you give your sick birds pedialyte or even Gatorade? Diarrhea and foul smelling poop is concerning.

Putting in my vote as a zoologist and bird specialist that Your Birds Need Vet Care most likely.
