hi guys its been like... a year since this started but Lincoln has just been making a weird noise when he's sleepy. I call it his "snoring". I have brought him to the vet several times since it started and brought up my concerns and they cannot find anything wrong with him. Any suggestions on why he could be making this noise? Should I be more worried or should I just let it be?

I have a Solomon Ekkie. He doesn’t make that noise. May I ask what the vets have done so far?

Checked for URI primarily. He had an xray and bloodwork done for other potential issues but those were relatively clear too.

It sounds like a respiratory issue to me (I’m just through the internet). That’s the assumption I’d make if someone randomly told me that their parrot is snoring. It’s not even a light snore in your video.

Do you have an Avian Vet for your Ekkie? Do you have the ability to bring him to one?

Is your Ekkie still eating, drinking, and such?

Your Ekkie’s eyelids look off to me as well in comparison to mine. I can’t even catch mine blinking to get a video to show you. It’s so quick, and even when he’s sleeping I can’t get near him before waking him up. Your parrot looks sick to me from the video you shared. I’m so sorry 😢 I hope he feels better soon.

I finally got it as he’s trying to mate with me 😒 Do you see how his eyelids bounce back immediately? Even when he’s sleeping they don’t look sticky/tacky/slow… if you look at the video you posted your Ekkie’s eyelids when he’s blinking are slow, sticky, tacky, which can be an indication of a sick parrot. I really worry about your Ekkie’s condition. I would say to try to consult an avian vet.

Hi, in this video he was sleepy which he tends to do slow blinks during. I can get a video of him more awake for you to compare to. He only makes the "snoring" when he is sleepy and he has been to a certified avian vet multiple times since it started and they do not see signs of a respiratory infection.

It’s so hard to get a picture of what’s going on online. The only other thing I could come up with is if there’s a fan, or something he’s mocking. One of my Ekkie’s previous owners had emphysema, and he mocks it VERY well.

Here's him being awake. Please excuse his beak, I know it's overgrown and I take him to the vet regularly to get it trimmed but it's very traumatic even with sedation and with his old age it has gotten harder. He gets around fine, eats fine, and plays with toys fine. We are working on alternatives to help trim his beak but it's a work in progress.

There is an air purifier in his room, a heater in the colder months, and then we have the central air system. I guess this is possible, he's never been much of a mimicker though, but who knows.

He is so cute 🥰 he looks exactly like my Nico when he’s awake. I trim Nico’s beak and nails. He likes the attention. I wouldn’t touch my macaws nails ever again myself. He didn’t come out of his cage for days. His nail trim went perfect too. He’s a big drama king.

I've been trying to introduce him to me trimming his beak myself. Ive gotten him to accept me running a nail file along his beak but that just... doesn't do much even if I do it like an hour a day. He's touch phobic so I can't hold his head steady to apply more pressure with the nail file. We've made some progress with him scratching his beak against the nail file but it still just isn't much. I've tried introducing a dremel to him (just holding it next to him, not even turned on or anything) and he was not a fan. His beak is like... weirdly dense. It's a lot thicker than overgrowth on other birds I've encountered. His beak health has been an ongoing battle for as long as I've had him and we just haven't had much luck "correcting" it. He doesn't chew on wood either despite my best efforts so that doesn't help.

That is a very strange noise coming out of a parrot! Either he's not well or he belongs in the Snoring Parrot Hall of Fame! A few of my budgies croak like bullfrog but that's really odd. I hope you can get to the bottom of it.
Where in Colorado do you live? There's a very good vet school one hour north of Boulder in Fort Collins. They see parrots by appointment. You ought to call them.

I am over in Parker, would you be able to private message me the information for this clinic?
