As you may remember, we were stressing over whether or not to get a parrot for my in-laws, well, the deed is done.

Popcorn, a 10 yo U2, has a new family.

We had more or less decided against it, then we found out Popcorn was still looking for a home - we thought he had been adopted. After researching is previous family and his personality, we felt this was a good fit. The pic above is from January, the first time we met him. He's apparently kind of shy and doesn't take to people right away. But when he saw my father-in-law, he stepped right up and stayed on his shoulder the whole time we were there.

His orignial family is an older couple who had to surrender him on doctor's orders - the "mom" has serious lung issues and a dusty bird aggrivated them. He's not clipped but flies only as a last resort - he just doesn't feel that it's necessary. He love to travel and is "potty trained". He talks but not very clearly and we're trying to figure out exactly what he's trying to say.

He was at our breeder's until he found a new home but she didn't have the time to spend with him so he's at our house for the next couple of weeks until my in-laws can come pick him up. We've had him for about 2 days and he's doing pretty well - considering that his life has been in unheaval for the past couple of months. He's really enjoying the human contact.

Max looked at him once and has since pretty much ignored him. Jade, on the other hand, is not amused. She hasn't been agressive but she doesn't like him to sit on her people.

Aww he is soo gorgeous!! Well done for taking him, it's great to see an older Too being given a chance, and at least you know he was rehomed due to a dust problem and not a behavioural one. He really is Beautiful!!

So glad you got him. Every home needs a Too, except mine!!

What a good deed, you have made us all proud, talking a bird in.
He is gorgeous......... I WANT ONE
So happy for Popcorn and your in-laws.
Sounds like he will settle down quickly and comfortably..
In no time I am sure, you will understand him, and visa versa
I wish them all the luck

Thanks for all of the well-wishes! My FIL is sooooooo excited. He's called almost every day since they decided to take him to make sure he has everything Popcorn's going to need. SB-he's trying to find a copy of Parrots for Dummy's now.

Even in the new situation, he's a mischievous one! He was opening kitchen cupboards exploring yesterday. At his previous home he would help weed the flower beds. He "weeded" and pruned my Norfolk pine yesterday. He got a little confused between the dead branches and the live ones, but it was a great help!

It's so funny since he doesn't really fly, he walks and hops everywhere.

It's great that your FIL is excited, and enthusiastic about learning about Parrots! It's what keeps life interesting, especially for older people!

Awww he's lovely, I'm sure he'll bring a lot of joy to your FIL in the years to come

Hooray for popcorn, and for your in-laws! They all sound so happy now! I'm actually pretty glad you decided to get them a bird anyway. As mamy problems could (possibly) arise, the pros still beat the cons. They're going to live very, very happy life; having a cockatoo around.

It's so true SB, any household could use a parrot (or two, or three--maybe four...) ;)

I just noticed...they kind of look alike, don't they?
