Hi,

I need an outdoor bird that can live with not much matinence in a cage with other birds. Preferbly not to loud in between sunset and 2 or 3 hours after sunrise, as our family love sleep and very colorful. We have had budgies, lovebirds, cocktails and Kakarikies. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Honestly? NONE! Sorry, but I'm just being honest. With your "requirements" you're better off getting a stuffed animal and they do make birds. :21:

I have to agree with Wendy. It's not like we're trying to be rude, or mean, but ALL birds are going to be messy, and loud, ESPECIALLY during those times. My green cheek conures are supposed a 'quieter than normal' parrot, but that DOES NOT mean quiet. :o I have times where with my Senegal, he will starts screaming, JUST because he's simply happy to be alive, then Bella and Zora will join in and it's downright LOUD. And the worst part is it's usually at night or early in the morning.

This is a parrot forum so i assume your looking for a type of parrot. Do you live where you can keep parrots outside year-round ? Are your other birds outside? Are all of these birds kept together in a outside aviary? How big? Are you looking for a "pet" bird ? What are you looking for in a bird? other than being quiet from dark until mid morning.(good luck with that)

What I've found is that with a good cage cover, you can somewhat control the noise and the mess at night time, but when your bird decides he wants to be awake in the morning, he won't care if you have a cover over the cage or not. Parrots are social creatures and just simply not low maintenance.

I live in australia and they would be in an outdoor avariy with a budgie all year long. They don't have to be tamed just happy to be left alone with other birds. It doesn't have to be quiet that would just be awesome, not to much of a screecher though! I prefer about the size of a budgie but kakariki size is fine. Thanks.

I realize you may live somewhere other than the US, But this is a pet forum. We hold our companion parrots in high regard, they are companions and not possessions. We bring them into our homes and treat them as family. A true pet bird would not be happy being outside and low maintenance. They bond with their owner and are miserable without them. If your keeping birds outside just to have them, this may not be the forum for you. Please forgive me and set me straight if i'm misreading this.

NO birds are quiet. and ALL birds can be messy!also no birds should be left outside all day/night with low matinence meaning you wont be with it. it is totally fine to have an aviary. but they need to be inside with you a lot. also, not many birds can live in the same cage as a budgie. a budie is such a small bird with a TINY beak that if they ever got agressive it could never defend itself. the other bird would hurt or kill it. even something as small as a quaker or conure could EASILY kill a budgie if it wanted. sorry if this sounds rude, but it is the truth. correct me if i read wrong and you said that they would be only outaide sometimes, or if they would have different cages, but as i read it, thats my answer. again, sory if that sounds rude, but its the truth.

you need a chicken

Parrots are flock creatures, which means they love interaction with other things . Even if you put a whole bunch of other birds with them to me it's not fair unless they have a whole forest . Parrots are the most social organisms on the planet , even more then 16 year old girls . A bird that doesn't vocalize for sunset ? No mess WITH other birds ? Chickens fit your bill

If the bird/s are going into an aviary with a budgie, you need a budgie... Budgies are quite independent, and wont take much of your time... Just feeding and cleaning... Please make sure you buy aviary birds, not handraised ones, who would be used to being inside and handled on a daily basis...
