All of these age assumptions/calculations are just assumptions. Actually and from my point of view nobody can tell how long he will live and this applies to all other creatures as well, Humans are estimated to live up to 80 years but as we do see everyday people and children dies at 10 - 40 even though most of them are healthy enough, so there is no rule for it, It's not a machine, It's a soul after all. Of course the the birds who gets a good care and a good nutrition is going to have a good health and happy life regardless of anything else. The only creature that's known to live for decades / centuries as far as i know are turtles
I find it interesting they base longevity on a parrot's size. I know they do the same thing with dogs too. Valentino's grandfather lived to be 82 years old. His grandmother is still alive and she is almost 70 years old. The RFM size to me are between a medium and large parrot so I am a bit confused of how size plays into longevity for a RFM.
I have read about people having amazon's that are in their 40's and 50's that are their pets and are still going strong. I would love to know if anyone out there has medium size older parrots or breeders that have experienced or know of older medium size parrots. I have heard of cockatiels in their 30's now budgies in their 20's still going strong. I think genetics and good care will play a roll in how long a parrot will live. I have had two parrots with questionable genetics who are no longer with me and all my boys were taken care of very very well and received very good vet care. I lost my Eclectus right before he turned 5 but that was because of disease and suspected genetics and not the care I gave him.
I can trace Valentino's genetics to good genes so that will help him. I have taken great pains to continue to educate myself on his species needed care with diet and the importance of exercise so I have adjusted my knowledge to help keep him as healthy as I can. I want Valentino to have the potential to live into his 80's like his grandfather. My next hurtle will be how to keep hormones level and at healthy levels.

I know a Mexican red head that is in it's 70's. I believe most medium sized+ parrots have potential to reach a very old age if given the right care, and you happen to get lucky. larger birds seem a little hardier which I think helps.
