I am deciding on a bird and getting opinions from owners on the species I'm considering. I just want to know what your Lory does that makes you smile, and what he does that you don't care for. All answers will be appreciated. Thanks!

well my Lorikeet is the funniest bird I love to watch him play and play with him! He surprises me every day! Downsides are he is MESSY imagine dumping water all over everything within a foot of the cage thats what its like cause he eat nectar and his droppings are liquid he shoots them out far too like a water gun and often! Also he will randomly attack me for no reason his bites hurt a lot! But he can also be so sweet and loving to me right after, I have been told this is normal, given all the hard things that come with him I love him and wouldnt trade him for the world! But it is a huge step in bird ownership much harder than a conure in my opinion.

My lory has a different shaped beak [and he doesnt hurt ] he sticks his tongue in my ear LOL. We thought he would be a good family pet [ they used him for school demonstations.] Hes very people accepting . His downfall ,the diet ,the mess and aggressive towards other birds. [Find that perfect lory :)] I contacted a lady [or tried ] in Buffalo NY that had them on her site [I was calling about a 2 for myself ] but thought of you when I saw their picture. She never returned my call was not impressed.

I'd love to know the lady as I know alady in buffalo that has a lory up for adoption to interested in if it is her..

I am not a lory owner but I have expirences almost all species of captive birds and the lories have had the most complaints about there messy diet. I haven't heard t much bad about them but that and the occasional apparently aggresive lory, but I kinda find that more to be the owners then anything so all in all the mess! But all of them are messy lories just have a sticky mess lol

The best: Her personality. She plays and plays and PLAYS. Such a cheeky thing, and always full of energy and 'go'. Also- not sure if this is a breed specific or personality specific thing, but Olive has adapted to new situations very very quickly! A very clever little bird.
She was raised with a batch of Conures, so she's quite friendly to other birds.

The bad: Her diet. Takes a bit of organising to provide the dry mix, wet mix (which only stays in the cage for an hour or two) and fresh fruit/veg.

I don't mind the cleaning too much. The splatters are very water soluble, and wash off very easily. Just need lots of newspaper and a floor/wall cover!
