Another thread about Squeaky the Cockatoo got me thinking about this, and got me a little nervous. Squeaky got a little “stained” by one of his chew toys.

What kind of dye is used in these things? It has to be food coloring, right?

But with the cheap stuff coming from China, how do we really know? I mean, come on. Look at what they did with baby formula!

Are these toys SAFE!?

I dont know, so I choose less dye , or none when possible...
I also find the metal questionable on many toys....as often doesn't seem like it is stainless steel... On cheap stuff I take the metal bells off, or if it's stuff threaded on metal bar, I remove it and thread on a zip tie....a lot if stuff I see makes me go hmm....

I purchase toys from a trusted vendor and try to choose from U.S.A. sourced stock. All of the stains resolve within days or a week depending on their level of bathing. A harsh permanent color would remain much longer, possibly the life of the feather(s).
