Hi, I hope you all doing well :)

I have a conure green cheek (male) 3.5 years old and he's very active, but his cage is actually pretty small for him so I'm planning to upgrade it to a bigger one, the biggest one I can find on the market has a bar spacing of 5/8, while my cage has a bar spacing of 1/2, but apart of that, even that the cage has the minimum (safe) required size of bar spacing for a GCC he got once his head out of cage through the bars, so I can't understand how and now I'm very confused to go for 5/8 which is a bit bigger than 1/2 or to keep this cage?

I understand when bar spacing is too big but I dont know why too small is bad.
min to max as I know for green cheeks (and similar sized birds) is 1cm to 1/2". My gcc cage is 1cm spacing.

Hi and welcome to the forum!
I have my conure in 1/2 inch bar spacing and I wouldn't go any wider for him (He is a Crimson Bellied). Yours managed to get his head through 1/2 spaced bars? Possibly the bar gauge isn't strong enough and he was able to bend them?

Sounds like a very cheap flimsy cage if the bars were able to bend far enough for the bird to get his head through.

I think you are right, the cage that I bought was very cheap and it seems that bar gauge isn't strong enough, the one that I'm planning to buy is very qualitative and is a lot more expensive, but as I said it has a bar spacing of 5/8, someone says that 5/8 is ok but I'm still not sure what to do :(

My breeder told me that 5/8 was fine.

The cage I bought is 5/8. Had Bodhi in it for a month, without any problems.
