Hello,
My wife and I just received this bird. This bird is playful and loves to be petted. We do not know what kind of bird it is. We want to know the parrot species so we can better take care of it. Can someone help us determine the species?

Looks like a sun conure. Seems very tame, which is good!

Be great to hear this little ones life story, how did you come across each other. Anything else dont be afraid to ask.

Welcome to the forum! I agree, looks like a young Sun conure, and he/she is beautiful:)
I'd also love to hear your story of how he joined your family:)

Yes, I agree too. Sure looks like a sun conure and he DOES look young. Beautiful! I love how hand tame he is! I'm sure you'll enjoy having him in your life.

Agreed! Looks like a Sun Conure IMHO!

Well the story of this sun conure is somewhat of a rescue story.

About a week ago, my wife was walking to her car while on her break when this bird flew to her and landed on her shoulder. She tried to put the bird back on a tree, but the bird kept grasping hard to her.

The bird looked like it hasnt eaten in a while. Luckily we own a Quaker. My wife has owned the quaker for over 15 years. We took the sun conure home and began to feed it by hand and give it water using a medicine dripper. These pictures were from last night after a week of taking care of it.

We can tell that this bird was well taken care of and was a pet. Someone really loved this bird until it escaped.

Have you tried looking for the owner? I bet someone is really missing that sweet baby:(
You could try calling any vets in the area and posting an add on CL if you are in the states:)

Your newly adopted sun conure is Gorgeous. This is probably a stupid question as you slready have a quaker so know a fair bit about Parrots already but did you check Craigs list and all the local vets to see if anybody is missing this beautiful baby ...sorry for asking if you have already done this but I had to ask. Hes absolutely Gorgeous :)

^^Yes, I know I'd have a punched in the gut feeling if my bird got lost:(

Looks like one of those Fancy Conures that Petsmart sells. Very nice birdie.

Yea my wife and i have checked the vets. Sadly we couldnt find anyone. The Craigslist idea we have not tried. Going to go look and see what i can find. Thanks for the idea! This bird deserves a good home. You can tell that it was trained.

I WOULDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT...

That definitely looks like a BABY sun conure.

Like, hasn't even had it's first molt yet baby... still has all it's baby greens.

I just looked on craiglist. The only missing sun conure looks very different from this one. Any other places i can look?

Just looked on 911 parrot alert. No luck. Does this forum have a lost or found section for missing birds?

Lost and Found - Parrot Forum - Parrot Owner's Community Our Lost and Found section :). If you go to the tab at the top that says "Forums" it lists all of them. This is one of the first categories near the top of the page.

I'd suggest posting "found parrot" ads (as well as looking for lost ads) on Craigslist, 911 Parrot Alert, google lost and found pet websites to get more. Where in the world are you located?

Edit: If you haven't already seen it, look through Mark's thread here http://www.parrotforums.com/lost-found/60914-i-lost-maggie-tonight.html and see what sort of methods have been used to reach out. There are many great ideas, many of which can apply to finding the owner of this little guy here. Good luck.

Is there a conure breeder in your area, because that is a just off hand feeding baby. Someone probably just got this bird, or it escaped from the breeders.
