So what do you think makes someone an experienced parrot owner?

Age?
Parrot Species?
Number of parrots owned?
Care?
Years of parrot ownership?
Other?

In my opinion, it is age, care, years of parrot ownership, and most importantly...improvement!

hmm... IMO, an experienced owner is an owner who :
1. Has owned parrots for a extended period of time
2. has done a lot of research and uses their own experiences as well
3. Takes proper care of their birds(the term "proper care" is a bit debatable)
4. has a lot of knowledge when it come to parrots(this is related to 2. and 3.)
5. Is willing to listen to other experienced bird owners
6. Is willing to learn from their mistakes and to share their personal experienced

1. Who had owned a parrot for at least a year.
2. Knows how to take care of birds in different situations.
3. knows their bird's personality and how to take care of them
4. Person who never gives up on taking care of their bird
5. A person who loves birds

2. Has owned all different species, sizes, and personalities of birds
3. Does daily research on parrot care
4. Is skeptical about new information but also very willing to learn from an expert
5. Takes good care of their birds (or what they have learned "good" is)
6. Realizes mistakes are ok as long as you learn from them
7. Try to do the best they can
8. Loves birds

But being "inexperienced" doesn't make you "bad" and vice versa. Like maybe you just got your first bird, but you did a ton of research and try your be the greatest bird owner you can be, or you've owned higher-maintenance birds for years but still don't do any research and refuse to learn.

Really experience comes down to simply

1. knowing your species in your care, and

2. experience enough to adapt to most situations, both known and unknown. having a confident response for most situations, which includes quickly knowing when that response is to consult specialists.

Introduce a new species and suddenly we’re all beginners. But there are enough commonalities that with enough experience you can adeptly adapt and adjust without too much fuss.

I think the personality is true, but I don't agree with the species. I think you can only own 1 species and still be experienced because different birds have different personalities.

Honestly I'm not quite so anybody is ever "experienced" I seen people who've owned birds 20 years make mistakes so Honestly at what point are You "experienced?" because I'm not sure anybody is quite frankly.

Whether I am an experienced Amazon owner is open for discussion as I find that I learn more everyday regarding the Amazon in my care and Amazons in general. The vast knowledge base regarding just the Amazon Species requires a lifetime of extensive study and experiences to just grasp.

The term 'Experienced' implies time. Knowledgable demands far more, commonly involving review of those known to be!

In my opinion, it's time and knowledge.
I owned a few small parrots as a child (ie. Cockatiels, parakeets)
But I decided myself that I was ready to jump in with both feet into large parrot ownership despite never owning a large parrot.
So that's why I studied the anatomy of parrots, studied behavior and even met a few parrots in person, and I learned fact from myth.
And I was worried that people would be right that they're nothing but wild and destructive.
But once I got Moxxie, I was shown otherwise, and it changed my view of parrots.
Sure, they may be wild, but a lot of those destructive behaviors can be deterred and even desensitized with time, training, and patience.

So, it's all about having the time and knowledge.

And also when I say time, I mean having the time to care for/train the bird.
Again, sometimes the amount of years you spend caring for birds doesn't matter if you do your research before hand.
Again, I've never owned large birds in my life till now but I did all the research before hand and taught myself basic behavior, diet, hygiene, and what you can teach a bird and how it can benefit you. I even found an experienced avian vet in my area as well that does checkups for $58, (although medicine needed and surgeries can be more expensive, the checkup itself isn't that pricey)
