I'm having an atom made and asked my stainless steel fabricator for a 30 inch diameter. Is this too big? He's working on a few other projects for me so he hasn't started the atom yet so there's still time to change, I think.

Regarding thickness, he's planning on using 3/4 inch tubes. I'm getting 1/4 inch abaca rope and planning on double wrapping so I assume total thickness would be 1.75 inches. Is this enough or should I plan on triple wrapping which would result in 2.25 inches?

This is a word have have never heard in relation to parrots....An atom?

What kind of macaw is this (you might consider updating your profile to include the bird you own).

Assuming it’s one of the larger (blue and gold, scarlet, green wing), that thickness should be fine for an atom perch.

Oh-- okay-- a perch. I wondered, but wasn't sure.

You’d know it if you saw it. Just google atom perch. Spherical hanging perches.

I pictured a literal atom, and when I Googled it, I saw what I expected, but in the form of a perch lol. I have seen them, but not often.

IMHO, a atom perch is Not something that I would make for any of the large Mac's let alone for an Amazon. FYI: I had never heard of this style perch and when I saw one, it was clear that it would not work well for an Amazon even sized up.

For a Large Mac, you're taking about an outer diameter of ring(s) need to be in the 54" (nearing a meter and a half) diameter or larger. Perch size for this group of Mac's like to be in the 3" (75 mm), plus range.

With the large Mac's everything is big, really big. Assure you have the open space to hang this perch.

Thanks for the input. Been spending a lot of time researching toys and the top three that consistently appear as favorites seem to be the atom/oddball/orbit, the boing, she climbing nets. Already having a net built, and the boing is on order, so the atom is next, haha.

Silly Noodles, its a perch made of Parrotonium. It's right there on the Periodic Table between Ridiculum and Goofynite. :29:

Had to Google, interesting concept. I'd think playful birds would love the concept as it provides lots of motion during use.

Well, my local ironmonger only charged me $60 to make a stainless steel frame so I went ahead and did it. Wrapping the rope was a lot of work, and I really really should have looked up some knots online before I jumped in, lol.

Almost finished...
