Hi all,

I just bought this bird the other day, and since the seller could not really help me with deciding the species, then i hope you guys can help me, when you see the photo

It's extremely dangerous to have a chain/clip around a birds leg. It's very possible it could cause them to break their leg.

Looks like an Olive-Headed Lorikeet.
As thekarens said, it's really dangerous to have a chain on a bird's leg. A good option is a harness.

Thanks for the help guys, and yes the chain will be removed, as i also don't like it, but just got him last night, so still trying to get to know him...

I don't think i ever see a harness, but sounds interesting, do you have any link to a place that sell this kind?

Definitely looks like a young OHL to me. If you're not familiar with lorikeets do A LOT of research about them, as they have particular diets (they're nectar feeding birds). Best of luck! He's a cutie

Olive headed lories are native to Timor, an island in Indonesia, so he could have been fed most anything, especially since he was most likely not purchased from a pet shop of any sort.....The World Parrot Trust lists a diet for OHLs on its website: Olive-headed Lorikeet (Trichoglossus euteles) | Parrot Care

Weco, you are correct he was bought at a bird market here in Surabaya - Indonesia where i have been living for the last 12 years. And those guys selling most likely only know the local name, which is difficult to get any use from if you try to google it...

I would say that mostly they do take good care with the diets of the animals, since the value of these birds are rather high, compared to the local salaries, and as far i could judge the he looks healthy and i could see he was feed bananas and other fruits, together with a honey-water mix.

And i was actually looking for a couple of "love birds" since my wife really like those, but i just saw this little guy, and he won me over. So now i'm trying to figure out the best way to care for him...
