Hello,

I still haven't decided upon purchasing which parrot, however, I would like some suggestions on what to look for in a budgie/parakeet.
Does it matter if it's male or female?
Is it better to purchase a pair?
Is it better to purchase a baby? why? and how old?
any other suggestions, thanks!

Hi MoneyKing (LOVE your name). :)

If you are looking for a companion budgie/parakeet, I'd suggest getting only one. Both males and females make outstanding pets, and many can learn to talk/mimic. :)

Why not have a look at your local bird rescue/shelter, and see if they have any available for you? There are just SO many birds in need of rehoming.

If at all possible, spend some time with the birds, and let the budgie/parakeet pick YOU. :)

haha, thanks :P

Thank you for responding; so if I purchase a female, will I be able to make it breed after?

Yeah, I guess I can take a look at the local pet store.

welcome and I agree with Wendy! I dont condone breeding parakeets unless you have some specific rare color traits you want to produce as there are so many parakeets! And I dont think anyone should breed with ought doing a ton of research!! Its dangerous and there are so many things to consider when breeding such as a special diet, knowledge of handfeeding, knowledge of what to do for all the things that could go wrong (there are so many things), knowledge of all the colors and genetics, and so many more things to know about breeding birds! Also most likely your birds would become aggressive if you breed so you wouldnt have a loving pet anymore.
